Recording daily cash sales totals - splitting up taxable and non taxable items.

The prices for our food include tax, but some items are not taxable. We handle only cash. To record daily sales do I enter the total sales into cash on hand and create an invoice to split up the taxable and nontaxable items to get a sales tax due tot

The solution

Do a daily sales summary.  Set up items as food - taxable; food - non taxable and Payment type called cash, subtotal item and sales tax item

On the sales receipt enter the taxable food item then subtotal then the sales tax item (which will tax the amount above, then non taxable food and then the cash item.  The amount of cash should be want you took in that day.  The cash should go to Cash In Drawer and then make the deposit from the drawer.
