It takes ages for reconcilition reports to generate, no matter how few xactions are in the reconciliation. QB Pro '09, Vista 64-bit. Problem happens in all company files I store on the computer. It began a few wks after QB install on new computer.
Make sure you UPDATE QuickBooks 2009 to the latest release. QuickBooks 2009 had terrible online banking problems that Intuit finally fixed fully only recently. There also were 300 bug fixes in one earlier update.
If you still have problems, try doing a full spyware and virus scan, fixing problems. If that does not help, turn off your virus checker and firewall for the few minutes it takes to test a new reconciliation (possibly after disconnecting your modem from the web). If this is a network problem, you can Google for the new Intuit Network Diagnostic Tool. You also can try the same file on a different computer. If you still have problems, I would fully uninstall QuickBooks 2009 and do a new install in a new folder.
You might even remove the Microsoft Net Framework 3 update if you have it and try a Windows 7 upgrade in a separate partition.

I just downloaded the tool and tested connectivity. I believe the problem was caused by a firewall issue--it's all running very fast now.
