I have a friend in the funeral home business who wants me to computerize his accounting. My past experience is with PeachTree software. His current preference is for the QuickBooks software. Is there a feature on QuickBooks that allows job costing as does PeachTree?
Yes, there is. You can job cost by "customer:job" or by class.

If inventory is not too extensive or detailed, qb should do fine.

Inventory is a non-issue. On the books, there is an asset called inventory which is, basically, his 'display samples.'
When he buys a casket, it is being used for a specific funeral, so there is no need to track it as inventory.

Laura DionDisplay samples are part of inventory. But I guess there isn't too much inventory, so I'd think qb can handle it.
