QuickBooks Updates-Backwards Compatility
Intuit's Accountant Feedback Center recently confirmed that one of the top issues for accounting professionals is the QuickBooks annual upgrade cycle and the resulting need for backwards compatibility among QuickBooks versions. Intuit is evaluating the technical feasibility of providing backwards compatibility, but so far has found it to be a complex problem with no immediately available, graceful solution. Otherwise, with the QuickBooks 2005 release, Intuit included the ability to identify the version year of data files you receive from your clients simply by right-clicking on the file names. This change was made in response to accountant suggestions to help better manage the data exchange with clients on older versions. In the meanwhile, in this discussion thread, please share your best practices for dealing with the current environment of dealing with QuickBooks upgrades and backward compatibility.
