Quickbooks Pro Intuit Canada

I am just about to purchase Quickbooks Pro for our business. Since we are located in the Caribbean, I am ordering it from Amazon in Canada for a relative to bring down to me. Is there any difference to the Quickbooks Pro by Intuit Canada, or is the software identical (i notice it has different packaging etc).

Hi,

The software is almost identical except for the payroll and sales tax modules which is geared more towards the Canadian market.

Hi, jayne:
I hope this worked out for you; you can also find out more about the Canadian version through this link.

Jayne

I just bought a copy of QB for wholesalers USA.
A non-feature that completely cripples it for my business is the complete lack of support for any other currencies. I will be returning my US version to buy the canadian version, which DOES support multiple currencies. Apparently, however the US and Canada versions are not terribly compatible. Hence, I will be locked into the "foreign" version.

I don't understand why Intuit does not include the foreign currency feature in it's USA versions. Do we not buy and sell globally?

Hi mlg_cqbpa,
I can certainly understand how much a feature like this would be welcomed by many QuickBooks users.  However, I hope you can appreciate that, as a business, we try to spend our development dollars on features that will deliver the greatest impact to most of our customers.  Even though there are tens of thousands of QuickBooks users that buy and sell in foreign currencies, there are hundreds of thousands of main street businesses that work only in US$.  I'm sure that, as more people begin to use foreign currencies, and especially as more people request this feature by submitting feedback through the Help menu in the program, it will eventually be added to the program.
Thanks for your post...Steve

Steve,

If Intuit has already developed foreign versions of QBP with the foreign currencies feature, as someone who works for a software development firm, I know that there is nominal additional development dollars needed to add this feature in your US versions. And to recuperate these additional development dollars, offer a QBP version with the foreign currency feature for more $$'s. Your reply to this post is disingenuous and dismissive of the "tens of thousands" of loyal QBP customers (and I'm sure many more than that) who run their businesses globally.

My apologies, but you are making some assumptions that are in error. The foreign currencies feature is in the Canadian version, as you noted. However, that version of the Canadian product is in a different development line than the US version of QuickBooks. They split off many years ago. There are significant differences internally between the US and the multi-currency Canadian versions that would make it VERY difficult to move the feature from one product branch to the other. It isn't always the simple task that you specify (and I've worked in software development for a very long time, and with the QuickBooks programming SDK for about four years now).

If you look at the current Canadian versions you will see that there are two product lines now - a multi currency version (based on the older Canadian code that doesn't use the SQL back end database) and a non-multi-currency version which is built on the same code base as the current US version.

Intuit has embarked on a project to unify the disparate code bases for the products the manage themselves (US, Canadian, UK, but probably not Australian which is a very different product). The Canadian 2008 non-multi-currency version is a first step in that direction.

It is unfortunate that at this time the "consolidated" code doesn't support multiple currencies. This is a very important feature. Intuit doesn't generally talk openly about features that are under development or consideration (there are legal reasons for that with a major corporation these days), but there are hints and indications that make me believe that multiple currencies should be available in the consolidated code base at some future time. That is my guess, and I'm not an employee of Intuit, so you have to take that for what it is.

If this helped, please give a "thumbs up" or mark it Solved.
