Hello,
I just purchased QB Pro 2013 locally loaded program and Need a new computer.
Does QB 2013 Pro run on the new windows 8?

There is still no official word from Intuit about Windows 8 except they are "still testing" it. I read one post that said 2013 R3 would work on Windows 8, and I read other posts that people are using it but having trouble with PDFs. I would wait, if it's possible.

as far as i know, QB has not yet announced that it is win 8 compatible. i have heard that win 7 is a better product than 8.
If this answers your question, please click on "solved."
Contrary ro popular belief or what anyone else may state, Yes, QB Pro 2013 will run fine on Windows 8. And one further note, Dymo labeling software will also work as an add on. Intuit said no it would not work yet but of course they couldn't see the roll of labels on my desk through their telephones.
I have recently bought a new computer running windows 8, and installed QB Pro 2013 on it. I bought a Dymo labeller so it would be an easy process to do the shipping labels and I can't seem to make it work. I called Dymo, who told me QB 2013 is not compatible with the labeller and then I saw your post. Can you explain how you got your Dymo labeller to work with QB 2013? The best I can do is see it in the list of devices and select it but during print preview, it shows the label vertically, but the writing horizontally and of course cut off. Also, I don't see dymo on the bar where the print button is like others have said. If there is a way of making this work, I would really appreciate it as I don't want to return the product now or wait a year for them to come up with an update! Thanks so much in advance!
Your answer lies with the dymo preview screen you are viewing. I will respond with details Saturday AM when I am at my office. (I would have thought the Dymo techs would have stopped the NO Windows 8 stuff by now. I suppose its their business to turn away customers.) I wouldn't!
To SVOSC-Its Sat. AM! I've put the steps in order. I think better that way!
1) Select Label Type, (1 1/8 x 3 1/2 is typical) (Layout Screen) appears.
2) (Left) Click on Label, Enter Address Info. (Post Office suggests Arial 12 pt. Font All CAPS)
3) I suggest (Shrink to Fit) option, but our name is Leisure World Mobile Home Park Association, Incorporated. Abbreviations can be helpful!
4)Click on (Properties). (Properties Screen) appears.
5)Click on (Advanced). (Advanced Screen) appears.
6) Make sure that (Rotation) is set to (None).
7) Click (OK)
8) Save if needed. Try Printing a label.
The Post Office Website shows the recommended address format. All CAPS is easier for their sorting equip. and using the Zip +4 & "Barcode" option can shave a day or two off delivery time depending on the distance.
This should solve your problem, Please advise!
Hi Gandalf, Thanks for your detailed reply! Sorry I did not see it before today. So, I assume I am to follow these steps on the dymo software? If so, I did do that, and the setting was already on rotation "none". I have no problem printing labels directly from the dymo software, but I wanted to be able to print through QuickBooks. Like when I enter a sales receipt and at the end, it lets me know I can print shipping labels, that is what I want to do. I just can't figure out how to get the icon to appear on the QuickBooks tool bar so I can just hit print a label and not have to enter the customer information separately in the dymo software.
Sorry if I have misunderstood your instructions. I'm new at all this!
SVOSC: This one is easier! You don't need the icon on the tool bar. Besides, I don't think you can add it anyway!
When you are done with your receipt. Don't close anything.
1. Mouse-Over to the top line of QB.
2. Open (Click) the file tab, look for and click on "Print Dymo Labels". Dymo screen will open.
3. The two choices are: (1) Print Single Label, (2) Print Multiple Labels. I prefer Multiple labels. (You can still select only one label and print it.)
4. Put a checkmark in the box in front of the customers name. Click "OK" when done. The Address/Edit screen appears with the QB address information for the customer selected.
5. Make corrections if needed and Select the label to print. (Bottom of Box) Note: If you have the Twin Turbo Model make sure the correct "left" or "right" side printer is shown.
6. Print your label.
I have the Twin Turbo Printer and have messed up more labels than I care to admit. The "Print Single Label" option is more for use with QB's collection letters and Microsoft's Word Program. I rarely use it so I don't really have much experience with that choice. If you use certified letters often, the small labels from Dymo saves a lot of writing. And if you use multiple sizes or styles of labels, Dymo has extra reels available. Contact their Customer Service Dept. by E-Mail.
If this solves your problem, please click on problem solved. I win a cookie or something!
Finally I don't work for Dymo or QB, I just use their programs.
Regards, Gandalf
Hi Gandalf,
Thank You once again for your help and patience! Unfortunately, I do not have a "Print Dymo Labels" option in my file menu. The only thing I get is a "Print forms" which opens up to a side panel with choices, and if you scroll down, it says "labels". When I click on that, it takes me to the same print screen where the Dymo 450 (I don't have the twin) label maker is selected. I had selected it as it did appear in the list of printer choices I had. That would be fine, but when you go to the pop down bar that gives you paper choices, the only choices are Avery labels of different sorts and the option for continuous labels is blacked out. I tried to select the closest Avery label in size but when I select print preview, it doesn't look right. I also went to the paper customization area (I think Options - then advanced on the print screen), and it gives you choices of different kinds of labels but if you try to change any settings, it puts an exclamation mark beside it and then tells you there are conflicts and won't let you override them. In a nutshell, this doesn't want to work for me! Grrr. Anyways, it is almost as easy to just have the dymo icon pinned to my task bar and just click on it and copy paste the label and print it. It's not many steps more than doing it through quickbooks but I just get annoyed when they tell you a product is compatible, and then it isn't.
Oh, and yes, I totally sympathize with the wasting of labels! I had an error on my dymo machine the other day and when I finally resolved the error, it just started spewing out labels and I couldn't stop it. I think about 14 labels later, it stopped. I was so irritated after having just paid $42.00 for a roll of shipping labels!! Got to find me some cheaper labels. Still dymo but from somewhere cheaper!
Thanks again so much for your help!! I wish I could mark this resolved, and of course, it is not your fault, but I'm still sorry.
Have a great day!
Sylvia
From what you have told me in your last post, it seems that the Dymo "add in" for QB is not loaded. I checked my copy of QB 2013 and the "Print DYMO Labels" choice is second to last just above "Exit. Lets take a crack at this one!
1. Verify the version of Dymo Software. Open Dymo, click on "Help", Choose "About Dymo Label". The version shown should be 8.0 or higher. (Mine is 8.4.2.18) (By the way, to close the screen you are looking at click on the blue box that popped up with the Version #.)
2. If you do not have the current version, go to Dymo Website and download latest driver software.
3. During set up, watch for and choose the "Dymo add in". Dymo should now appear in the QB 2013 "File" tab.
4. Try your label again.
My original label maker was also the 450 single model and I did have a little trouble with the initial installation. But when I contacted Dymo and downloaded the newest software driver it worked fine. The solution may be as simple as installing the latest software. You didn't hear this from me, but Staples "Online" has most of Dymo's labels available. I'll bet that all of the Office type stores do as well.
I hope this works, I really want that cookie! Since its tax season, I wonder if I'll get a 1099 for that cookie?

Ok Gandalf, you're really not gonna like me after this post. I think I am about to give up on this whole dymo and quickbooks deal! I have uninstalled, re-installed the printer drivers. I already had the latest one as when I bought the dymo printer, the software cd that came with it was the driver for only up to windows 7. Rather than install that, I went online and found the latest one for windows 8. Anyhow, installed/reinstalled to no avail. I then got desperate enough to uninstall and install the cd I had just in case there was some magic add in on that one which of course, was a flop as well. I then made sure everything was uninstalled from my computer and went back and downloaded the latest driver again. Luckily, it still remembered all the label settings I had made before. Through all of this, I never once got the "Print Dymo Label" option in the file menu. I did a little extra searching online and from what I have seen, it seems like the add ins are only made for quickbooks US version, and they supposedly only go up to qb 2011. I don't know why us Canadians always get shafted! Hmph. That said, many of the US customers were complaining too that the whole dymo and qb connection is somewhat falsely advertised as it is really difficult to get a good connection between the two. If I didn't like this little machine so much, I would just pack it up and return it, but honestly, it is not that many extra steps printing the labels from the dymo utility. I just have it pinned to my task bar so that it is always handy, and when I'm done an invoice in qb, I copy the address and paste into the template and press print. Pretty much one extra step. Sigh..
So, I feel really bad about your cookie. Can I still hit solved so that you get your cookie? Your info is actually spot on, it's not your fault if dymo ignores Canadians!
Much thanks,
Sylvia
My apoligies. I knew that some items were different for our northern neighbors, but I had assumed it was primarily due to differences in tax structure. Since one of my ancestors founded Dundas Ontario, should Canada choose to get even for the slight, I will answer the call! (Je me souviens) (For the Censors, it means "I remember") Besides, I am getting perturbed with the current affairs of the colonies.
Thanks, but I really didn't need the cookie anyway.

No need to apologize! It's just the way it is sometimes. Oh, and cool that your ancestors founded Dundas, Ontario. In any event, thanks for all your help! it's nice knowing there are people here to help share their knowledge that won't charge you $100.00 per phone call! Have a great day!

I think that they just realed R4 (manual update), this is the first release that offiicially claims to be Window 8 compatible.
However, there is still an issue with dual monitors of different resolutions.
With Windows 8 there were problems with emailing, bank rec reports and other PDF related issues. You're right the R4 update is supposed to have fixed the problems (I don't think everyone had the problem). It is still a manual update -- I recorded this quick video to show you how to get it: http://youtu.be/f7PxZi18mkw&nb...; It should be an automatic update next week.
The official release happened, automatically downloaded and it does say it is compatible with Windows 8.
I just purchased a new computer with windows 8. I have been running quickbooks pro 2008, and I need to upgrade . My question is will my backup of 2008 install everything in the 2013 version. I really can't afford to have to re enter everything for this year. Thank you.
You should not have a problem, but keep an extra backup tucked away, just in case.
If you can, in 2008 verify twice, then make your backup. Then just restore in 2013.
OK so I have installed QB 2013. I have a back up file from my 2008. Do I restore back up or restore portable company file in 2013?
