QuickBooks for home use only
I would like to set up QuickBooks for home use only, not for a company. How would I do this?

You still create a "company file" since this is the data file.
But you would probably like Quicken better, for home use.
I am in a similar situation. I've used Quickbooks Pro for my business (independent psychotherapist) for the last five years. I just use it for the basics: money in and money out, and to print a report or two for taxes. I am relatively familiar with making my way around the program.
What advantage would I have in buying and learning Quicken for use at home? Wouldn't it be just as easy to create a new company for home use in Quickbooks? What are the pros and cons. Thanks!

Quicken has many built-in tools and functions that are meant for personal financial tracking and management, and these are not found in QB.
I would skip Quicken if you ever think of going to Macs. The Quicken version (Essentials) is very poor in functionality. And many of the built-in tools that you would be used to, will then not work on the Mac. I can't believe that Intuit has not solved these problems as more and more people are going over to the Mac side.
