QuickBooks enterprise 7.0 with Terminal Services (licensing issue)

Hi, I have been using Quick Books for the last 4-5 years and m very satisfied with the services and the functionalities of Quick Books. Now I am thinking to change the setup of my network. I want to install one quick books enterprise 7.0 license (single user license) on a high end server configured as terminal server. If I want to connect multi users (5 - 20 users) as a terminal server clients, apart from getting terminal server license and terminal server client access license do i need to purchase additional quickbooks licenses or not (I will be running quick books from terminal server as a terminal server client and not going to install quick books on workstation or clients) It will be highly appreciable to know the above information as i ll have to decide my budget also. Thanks

Hi Kanwaldev,

You still need to have one license per QuickBooks user in a Terminal Services setup.  Even though you are only installing the software once, each QuickBooks user counts as one license.  For instance, if you have a 5-user license, then when a 6th user tries to log into the file they will be unable to do so.

Thanks,
Nic

I use QB Enterprise 7.0 on Terminal Server of Win 2003 Server. We have 10 Terminal Server CALs and the 5-user QBES version. You cannot do what you want with just 1 license of QB. The data file knows how many users have it open, and required 1 license for each use who wants to simultaneously open the file. You cannot "trick" it with Terminal Server.

Hi,

Actually the multiple users connecting to my Terminal Server with Quickbooks Installed will not be using one file to work on instead they will use their spicific data files to work upon, as I also know for working on same QB file I will be reqiring multi user license.

So kindly clarify again that I am not sharing single QB file by multiple users and users are working on their specific qb files from Terminal server, apart from TS license and TS CALs do i need additional QB license.

Thanks

Hi Kanwaldev,

Even if each user is in a different QuickBooks file, you still need one QuickBooks license per user.

Thanks,
Nic

Hi Nic,

Thanks for the update, but is there any specific Licensing Scheme from Intuit for Terminal Services Environment... otherwise there is no difference in pricing whether I am using ClientServer architecture with full working Windows workstations with QB installed on each workstation or Thin clients accessing applications from Terminal Server (with QB installed on it)(my case being if i am not accessing single qb file by multiple users).

Thanks

Hi Kanwaldev,

There isn't any Terminal Server specific licensing.  It is the same for each situation - one license per user.

Thanks,
Nic
