If we install this update today will it affect the last payroll run for 2011 by changing the TD1 amounts, deductions, etc. as I seem to remember that I had a problem with that last year? Thanks for any info you can provide. Also I noticed it is asking to update the file once again and as an accountant this gets to be a bit of a pain when you are doing books for a number of clients.

It should not. As I remember the update was always "date sensitive". You should be able to process 2011,even if you installed the 2012 PY update. That said - (since my automatic update seems to no longer work for the past few years), I am not going to bother with it until early sometime in January before Jan 2012 PAYROLL. And I am not going to upgrade my files to QB2012 until I have to, in late June 2012.

It just gets more creepy everyear & I no longer have the time to "Play with it " & look for the bugs.

Eric

I have had "automatic update" enabled since 2010 & prior. I still do. I always have to do a manual upgrade for this within QB. It does not work, unless I select "upgrade QB now. Then it seems to work. It was all "automatic" before.

Noticed the tiny Canadian Flag on the other info given on this thread re: CPP/EI limits etc. Would be nice if that could be translated to the Forum. Like - before someone asks a question! Our members are still answering questions, not knowing if a Canadian question. Most come up saying "US Qbooks" or what ever. Seems it is the default.

Is the forum really that difficult to fix? Makes me very nervous, than I already am now using Qbooks for my companies in the future. I have used it for over 20 years now.

Please comment.

QBQueen.

Automatic updates should be working as designed, unless there are firewalls or security programs blocking it. Then you need to grant access to certain ports/settings to allow for updates to come through.  Check out the link below for more information.

Firewalls, internet security and parental control settings

As per your forum changes request, we understand this is an issue and we are trying our best to resolve it.  As you can understand, changes do not take place overnight! (if i can make the changes myself, I will do it immediately!).

Thanks again for your comments and feedback.

The above link is the standard answer to the update problem but when I changed Windows 7 firewall settings as instructed, the problem was not corrected . I only use Microsoft security software. Technical support could not offer any additional help implying that the problem must be with my software.

But, lo and behold, after installing QB2012, automatic updates is now working for both QB2011 and QB2012 . No firewall  or other settings were changed . I wonder if I was just lucky or a proper fix was included with the QB2012 release. Has anyone else noticed this change?

I have done the updates for the payroll.  Quickbooks says that it is updated for 01/01/2012, but the amounts for the taxes are not the ones for 2012.

How did you determine that the amounts were not correct?

Did you make sure that all employee TD1 amounts were correct?

I checked with the government of canada website as the amounts were different from the other program I was using.  I ended up just manually changing the amounts, but I think with a program, it should do that automatically.

Are you sure you have entered the correct Pay Schedule for each employee in QuickBooks and that you used the same schedule in your other program?

Also make sure that you have entered the correct TD1 amounts.

I have never seen QuickBooks be that much different.  There are sometimes small differences between QuickBooks and CRA, but not the amount you are stating.
