I have tried to reinstall QuickBooks but it did not seem to solve my problem. I can use QB but if i leave it alone for about 10 minutes or so it stops responding. this started after I installed the R8 update. So what can I do now?

Sad to say that I'm glad to see this.  We have the same issue along with the program locking up whenever it wants to.  After hours of tech support and sending in our data file for repair twice, tech support implies that no one else is having a "lock up" issue like we are.  We just replaced our hard drives and still have the same problem.  It all comes back to the fact that life was good before we updated to R8.  Not a single problem.  As of 7/21 (date of R8 update), QB life has been VERY frustrating.  We have been converted back to R6.  That doesn't help.  They say the data file is clean.  Maybe it is, but something within the program doesn't seem to be.  We have uninstalled and re-installed twice.  We're under the impression that they're not going to spend a lot of time and money fixing it with 12 coming out really soon.  If that doesn't fix our problem, we will not be too happy.

We are now having trouble merging accountants copy back with client file.  It starts the process and then errors out in the middle and corrupts the client file and we have to resotre the backup.  Started with R8.

Has this problem been resolved yet with R8?  i am looking to upgrade my office from v2010 to v2011 and I am waiting for a resolution on this problem before upgrading....or maybe I should just wait for 2012

if not, i hope Intuit posts here to let people know that it has been fixed

Since it hasn't been fixed by now, it probably never will.

My guess, Intuit didn't want to invest/waste resources on R8 when 2012 was just around the corner.  I am going to guess their official response to the R8 bug, will eventually be, to upgrade to 2012.

I got hit by this issue too. Called support and got a run around. Nothing but canned solutions, typical of first level support. I copied my data files to my personal laptop (I use this for QB reference when out of the office), and it worked fine, even with the R8 update. Thank goodness for the backup laptop, or my business would have be dead in the water since August!!

I did all the things that QB said to try in the link above, and nothing worked, as it kept insisting on installing R8. I finally turned off the updates, then it complained that the data file was from a newer release and may cause problems. Another call to QB support and was told by some arrogant kid that my user profile is corrupt and that I have to create a new user, as that's the fix. Worked fine till R8, works fine if you reinstall until R8 gets installed, rinse and repeat multiple times, same result. With 20+ yrs IT background I was not buying that user profile excuse, and she basically said do it or they won't talk to me. I choose not to talk to them any more.

Since I'd just upgraded that computer to Win 7 Pro 64bit (from XP pro), and did not have anything to loose (yet), I decided to do a fresh reinstall, but with 32 bit. The backup lappy I was using was Win 7 32 bit, and it was working fine there, so I figured it was worth a try. I'd seen enough complaints about 64 bit by this point that I figured it can't hurt to try. Installed win 7 32 bit, and viola, it's all better. Works like it should ever since, like 6 weeks now.

Not sure if anyone else is still stuck with this issue, but if you are, and you're running Win 7 64 bit, 32 bit just might be the solution.

John
