I doubt there is much corrilation between the US Mac version and the UK PC version.
Any news or insider information from anyone else?

"I know that Quickbooks do not want to let us have a release date too far in advance in case they find cannot meet it, but it would be nice if someone from Intuit could at least confirm whether they are working on a new version and whether we are talking this year or next for a release if they are - surely that would not be too much to ask!"
I think Intuit have run out of time on this Windows 7 is out now and although you can run Qb2006 in XP mode which is in Windows 7.
Windows 7 has IE8 as the standard browser so much of the funcionality of the centres is missing due to the already reported problems and necessary downgrade to IE7 to cure not being possible in Windows 7.
QB2006 as a multicurrency option is now beginning to be obsolete as other systems move on.
To prevent loss of custom Intuit should announce a release date for Multicurrency now to prevent strategic decisions on future upgrade investments going against them. People have/will wait but the time has now run out.
Windows 7 will seal their fate.
I was told by a pro advisor support member at Intuit back in May that the next release would be in around 6 months- if that still stands, I guess it should be anytime around now.

I had cause to phone to get an activation code this morning, and the woman on the other end tried to sell me tech support on top of my monthly subscription on the basis that a new version was out "soon". If they are openly admitting that a new version exists, then I would guess we could read that as "very soon", as normally nothing is admitted publicly until it arrives.
I also called to activate my QB today. The adviser suggested that 2010 would be released in about two months. She then suggested that I might need to add Support to my monthly QB + Payroll subscription in order to get 2010 for free. Given that I have been stuck on 2006 (as I need multicurrency) for over 3 years, I gave her my frank opinion on this suggestion. After checking, she confirmed I would get 2010 for free.
Frankly, I think Intuit have been taking us for a ride in the UK by leaving users who require multicurrency stranded on QB2006 for several years, but taking monthly payments intended to cover free updates. I could have bought the software in a retail store two or three times over for what I have paid!
Get on with it Intuit!
@LeedsBoy38 - Well done for getting a straight answer out of them - I asked a number of times whether I would get the upgrade free without the support plan (I do pay a monthly subscription) and never got an answer. But then her English was pretty much limited to the pre-prepared script she was reading, so I'm not sure she ever understood the question.

When I spoke to them last week, they told me it would be May.
They also helpfully told me to get a new computer because I called for an activation code for QB2008, having swapped it to my .... er.... new computer, which just happens to be Windows 7 64 bit. The activation code did not work and they said it was because my computer was 64 bit. They also said that the new version would not be 64 bit compatible either, so be warned. Having said that, I think they just could not be bothered to help me, because I palyed around with it and it now works fine (although I had to change to Vista compatability mode to get Financial Statement Designer working yesterday).

I sincerely hope that QB2010 does support x86-64. I am about to upgrade my Win2003 server (32bit) to Win2008 R2 which is 64bit only. All my other PC's are running Windows7 x86-64.
Therefore for Intuit to not support 64-bit would be extremely short sighted of them.

I just got off the phone from Intuit customer support. They said I should 'check back on Tuesday next week' regarding QB 2010. If that's not telling me we're about to get a release I don't know what is!
At last.....
Fingers crossed it's true and everything we need/want is there for us....

Looks today (10 May 2010) as if release date is June 2010 - see here for more information.

Hi,
The new version of QuickBooks is now available for purchase.
It does have multicurrency, supports windows 7 and 64bit versions of XP, Vista and 7.
Here is a full list of all the new features
So support for QB2008 is being discontinued in the next month or so. Given that QB2008 was the current release until May 2010, supporting a product for little more than 10 months after discontinuation is disgusting.
I'm not going to bother upgrading until QB 2011 comes out - why upgrade to something already a year old if support ends within months of the new products arrival.
I recommend that eveyone downloads the latest patch ASAP just in case you need to reinstall. One of my clients needed to reinstall QB2006 for a VAT audit purposes and couldn't - the datafile he had had been upgraded by an online update patch, which was no longer available, and the version on his QB2006 CD wouldn't open his 2006 datafile.
QB 2008 doesn't migrate VAT properly - in reality he will never be able to access his data as it was on the day he left it.
Where do you get this information from as I am on site nearly daily and have seen no mention of this .
Qb 2006 is still possible to use I have QB 2002, 2004 & 2006 all running concurrently with Qb 2008 & 2010.
You client just needs to install QB 2006 & run update or get a copy of the last patch.
I advise anyone to turn off automatic update on everything I do not allow update unless I know what & when they happen. I only allow the ones I trust. Anti Virus is one.
Graceman,
What I meant was, if someone has used QB2006 in the past, had auto-updates enabled (the default), they can no longer re-install the software since the patches downloaded by QB2006 are no longer available (at least they weren't last yr (early 2010), and without these patches you cannot open your data file.
My advice to anyone running QB2008 is to manually download the updates while they are still available and burn them to CD to be stored with your install CD's. If you have QB2006 on a working machine, it is possible to drop into the program directory structure and find the relevant download patches and to burn those to CD too. if you don't, and you had a system crash, you will not be able to restore your data.
Sure, you can upgrade your 2006 data into QB2008 / 2010 format - but it handles VAT so differently that you could not recreate your VAT 100 as it was when you prepared it in QB2006.
I believe that since the customer has a legal obligation to keep VAT records for 6yrs, that intuit should keep the last available patch for all its software live on its system for 6yrs. If intuit doesn't want this responsibility, then one of the tasks that the QB backup routine should be doing is to burn any patches downloaded to a location of the users choice when they do a data backup.
This shouldn't be confused with keeping the patches up-to-date - and its not Intuit's responsibility to make QB2008 work when loaded up on windows 2017, - the customer needs to be sure they can rebuild a windows XP machine in 2017 if they need to, but if they can, Intuit should make sure that they can then load QB200x onto it and that they can access their data.
To be in black & white for me to understand,(I apologize), are you saying I need to download the 2008 patches(for my 2008 QB Pro program) & burn on CD, to use later, if my system crashes. Are you familiar with the 2008 Payroll program also, would you recommend to upgrade the Payroll(only 3 employees, & do payroll & tax calcs manually on PR2008)???
I don't subscribe to QB PR upgrades, support, cost isn't feasible, we run a small business, farming, crop ins.
PLus upgrade = $199(QB PR) I always feel like QB takes the smaller vendors for a ride, if we use their services. Any suggestions???
I disagree with "bookthat" the QB 2006 upgrade to QB 2008 or QB 2010 if done correctly does allow you to create the Vat report to match your last Vat period in QB 2006. I have done this several times.
QB 2006 past periods are not carried over into QB 2008/10 but you still have the filed data in QB 2006 plus the printed forms which is all you need. The transactions that created the data are all in the upgraded QB 2008/10.
The limitations are normally due to the fact that the older versions allowed out of period postings and did not pick them up like QB 2008/10 now does.
I currently have QB 2002/2004/2006/2008 all functional and working on my PC you can still get activation codes for these.
The only thing I save is the download directory where the updates are stored.
