Quickbooks 2009 pro how to change industry type

I used simple start 2006 until now. I upgraded to pro 2009 and need to change the company industry type from the default to building and contracting. How do I accomplish this?

You mean "Industry Edition"? Pro doesn't have different industry editions, that is only available in Premier or Enterprise.

If you mean the industry type that you select when you create a new company, that isn't a setting you change. The "interview" just sets a variety of preferences (which you can change yourself directly) and sets up a typical chart of accounts (which you can edit directly).

Let me know if that is clear. If this answers your question, please click on the 'solved' button.
This will 'close' this thread.

Copied Directly from the Help Menu withing Quickbooks Premier 2009:

"You can change to a different industry edition from within QuickBooks. Industry editions include Contractors, Nonprofits, Retailers, Accounting Professionals, Manufacturers & Wholesalers, Professional Services, and General Business.

To learn more about which industry edition is right for you, see Industry-Specific Versions.

Changing industry editions does NOT change your accounts. Your company file will be identical in the new edition, you'll just have different, industry-specific reports and forms.

To do this task

Go to the Help menu, click Manage My License, and then click Change to a Different Industry Edition.

Note: The Accountant Edition uses the Toggle Edition feature to change between industry-specific editions.
If you change to the Accountant Edition and want to change back, go to the File menu and select Toggle to Another Edition to change editions while in the Accountant Edition.

Select a different industry and click Next.

Verify your selection and click Finish.

QuickBooks prompts you to make a backup. Click Yes to start the backup.

QuickBooks will complete the edition change and reopen using the new edition."

Hope this helps some!
