Quickbooks 2009 not working with Office 2010?

US QuickBooks Premier : 2009: Accountant

I recently upgraded to Microsoft Office 2010, and now I cannot export reports to Excel. I am using QB Premiere Accountant Edition 2009 with Office 2010 32-bit. QB returns the error "Microsoft Excel Could not be found. Microsoft Excel 2000 or higher is required to use this feature. Note: If you have Microsoft Excel installed, try reinstalling it."

I have tried repairing the Office 2010 installation, then rebooting and trying to run the export again - same results. Anyone know if this is a permanent limitation of 2009?

Thanks,

Tim

The solution

You're right -- it doesn't work with Office 2010 yet.    The R8 update for 2010 enabled some versions of QB 2010 to work with Office 2010, but not the Accountant Edition nor Enterprise.

Please post additional questions or else click SOLVED. Thanks!

Thank you for such a quick answer. Your choice of "yet" seems to offer some hope that maybe they will work it into a future update perhaps? Does anyone have info on this beyond just speculation?

I would hope that since R8 came out for some versions that they are working on it.  No official word of course, but it helps to submit your request.  In QuickBooks go to Help>Submit Feedback Online>Product Suggestion -- or Bug Report.  The more people they hear from the more likely it gets done! :)

I have the Pro version of QB 2010 and Office Student 2010 Suite and have the R9 update and the export features still do not work..  This is creating quite a problem for me.

Well, not sure this will help you unless you happen to have the install files/disk for Office 2007 handy. Here is the workaround I was able to use. Worked for me, but as Office 2010 is technically unsupported, can't promise it will work for anyone else ;)

  1. Installed Office 2010 (reboot if prompted)
  2. I then additionally installed only Excel 2007 from my Office 2007 disk - just the bare-bones, no extras (reboot if prompted)
  3. In Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, Select Office 2010 and perform a repair of the installation. This will restore 2010 suite as default for all file types.

This seems to have "tricked" QB into seeing that a compatible Excel is installed (2007), but then when it exports it actually exports to the default (2010). So far so good 45 days later!

Tim

QuickBooks 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 - including Premier Accountant - work with the 32-bit version of the retail Microsoft Office 2010 product.  See this article for more info.
