Questions for start up

Besides a fictitious name and business license, how do you protect yourself from lawsuits and what other government regulations must I know about.  Also, does terms of agreement protect you from lawsuits.

I am no attorney. However, a fictitious name and business license do not protect you. The fictitious name allows you as a sole proprietor to use a business name rather than your personal name. It also lets you use a typical business name without creating a formal legal entity (corporation, partnership, LLC, etc.).

I suggest that you contact a reputable attorney, for additional information. Some may respond here, but can't give legal advice.

Please post additional questions or else click SOLVED. Thanks!

This is America - nothing can completely protect you from lawsuits.  However visiting with a good attorney can go a long way towards helping protect you.  A good insurance agent wouldn't hurt either.

Hello Thoughtful77,

Here is a webinar we hosted in December, with a State Farm Insurance agent discussing what to look for with regards to business insurance. I hope the information there helps answer your question.
