QB 2010 R5 cannot open qbb from Windows

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2010

A new problem for me with the R5 patch that was not present through R4:  QB 2010 R5 will not open a data file saved from QB Windows (via the Windows File > Utilities > Copy Company File for Quickbooks Mac... command).

The generated MAC.qbb file was produced from a file that was verified with no problems on QB Windows and has been in use for many years. Rebuilt even in case that would help.  I have been using QB Pro 2008 on Windows and thought that perhaps converting my data to QB Premier Accountant 2010 first (which includes deep verify) might produce a better result by saving from the Windows 2010 product, but I get the same errors.  Here is a screenshot of the message i receive after most of the data seems to have been processed by QB 2010 Mac R5.

One other time, I got this other message:

Opening the Mac Console app and filtering for Quickbooks2010 messages, I have the following error entries:

12/27/09 8:36:39 PM QuickBooks 2010[1731] File Error: /Volumes/Build/QuickBooksBuildSystem/Stage/Projects/DoubleShot/QuickBooks/Code/convert/QBLegacyDoc.mm 562 NSInternalInconsistencyException +entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'nextGIKey'

12/27/09 8:36:39 PM QuickBooks 2010[1731] File Error: /Volumes/Build/QuickBooksBuildSystem/Stage/Projects/DoubleShot/QuickBooks/Code/convert/QBLegacyDoc.mm 562 NSInternalInconsistencyException +entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'nextGIKey'
error userInfo:{
NSLocalizedDescription = NSInternalInconsistencyException;
NSLocalizedFailureReason = "+entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'nextGIKey'";
}

Separate issue - but as long as I'm looking at the Console logs... I should note that under normal operations with QB 2010 Mac R5 I get a bunch of "reference count underflow" error entries in my Console log, too.  Verify/Rebuild does nothing to eliminate these.

??

 I just tried two other companies  from windows (MAC qbb) - which had also opened/converted without messages in R2 ... and I get the same error as above.

Since nobody else has reported this ... I'm getting a psychic signal that Biscotti or JFischer will want me to uninstall and reinstall...?  Probably delete all preference files, too?

Thanks,

Karl

Sorry DrKarl, your incoming telepathic messages must be coming from a different source. ;-) I doubt that Biscotti & I would ever recommend uninstall/reinstall nor deleting prefs for this kind of issue.

What we will do is ask our Psychic QBWin Guru to do some additional testing with files from QBWin to Mac R5 and then perhaps ask you some additional questions - via ESP, of course so we don't all waste time typing.

If you bring a question to this forum, please also try to leave an answer for someone else.

Just cross-linking to another thread where two other users get the same error message:

One person there reports that Intuit has a copy of their data file for analysis.

Sounds like a particular data element is not being supported in the cross-platform conversion. I'm not sure what that element is - only that we haven't seen it in our internal testing.   Asking engineering and QA.

 Thanks for the updates online and offline, Biscotti and JFisher!  But, hey, if the patch isn't released tomorrow, it won't be until the next decade. :-)))

I am converting from QB 2010 Premier PC to QB 2010 Mac and received the same error of "NSInternalInconsistencyException."  Has anyone found a solution?  HELP!

 I'm a casual user of QuickBooks...my bookkeeper and my accountant are the usual folks who use QB.  However, I'm trying to take more responsibility for data entry and report management. I'm the only one around here who uses a MAC...everyone else is in Windows.

So, I just yesterday bought a copy of QB for Mac 2010 and must install it myself.  One of my companies loaded fine, but when I try to convert the other, more active company to the Mac system, I got the message

"could not be opened. +entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'nextGIKey'

I found this website conversation, and we all seem to be in the same predicament.  Any ideas on repair would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Lance

 Seems lots of us are having this issue. Just bought a Mac and trying to move from PC to my new mac with QB201 for MAC. Why is this happening? Anyone have any ideas yet?

I have the exact same 'nextGIKey" and NSInternalInconsistencyException.

Thanks

I took a hint from an answer above that mentioned note in time tracking...I went back to my QB file in Windows and deleted all text under Notes in the Timesheets.  I then verified my data again and it converted fine.

Also, make sure you update the version on both ends and on the Window end delete any memorized reports and transactions and verify data under Utilities before you back up for Mac.

Hope this helps!

Folks, please do not take msterchi1's advice, but wait for Intuit to release a bug-fixing patch, which they are working on.

msterchi:  deleting your Notes is deleting information that cannot be restored.  Yes, this works around the bug, but at what cost?  For many people, the Notes transfer to invoices and are an essential part of their data.

Please click the "Solved" button if your question has been resolved. (Not so that I get any points - do not really care - but so that others know if the question has been resolved.) Thanks.

Now, now, wait Karl. It's a legitimate workaround for those users who need to get converted. If msterchi determined he can live without the notes, that's fine. I would expect most users would consider what they're doing before they do so, don't you think?

(Plus, msterchi just confirmed our suspicions and I think that's great! =) )

Thank you, jfisher.  Yes, I needed to get converted immediately and didn't have time to wait on Intuit.  And yes, Notes were not an important part of my data and something I could afford to lose.  It's a sacrifice I made to get on the Mac version, just like memorized reports and list, Invoice templates, ect.

DrKarl: I assume people won't delete items that they want to keep.  I'm sorry for encouraging self-help among inexperienced users, but I was excited and proud that I was able to get up and running today while everyone else waits around on a patch.  I like a good challenge and figuring things out on my own!

Good luck,

Mary

 This bug was introduced in R5 as part of the performance improvements.  You can use the R4 release for now until R6 comes out with the fix.

I'm not sure where you download the R4 version but I'm sure it is available.  Jennifer do you know where it is?
