Proline tax import requires all the clients documents to be in a single PDF file. I don't keep my paperless files like that, and my clients don't email documents to me like that. Also I thought it would access files directly from DMS but apparently not. Any ideas?
First idea I think of, when I see all the problems you're having, is don't bother using Proline Tax Import. If it costs money, for sure don't buy it!

Laura, you can do multiple submissions - just let one process, then do the next.
I agree with the need to send up multiple files - we often get secured brokerage files, and those can't easily be combined with the main file. But for those couple of people (and the volume of transactions), it's worth the extra hassle. We do keep all our workpapers for a project in one file, bookmarked for ease of finding things.
I don't use DMS, so can't speak to it.
I haven't seen the proposed pricing structure for Import, and it's still a freebie now. But we beta-tested incarnations of it for the last 2 tax seasons, and it is *awesome*. Big timesaver.
Just so you know: Tax Import is currently being offered in Lacerte for extension season for free, so it doesn’t have all features yet (like multiple document submission and DMS integration). Expect both of these features as part of the Tax Year 2010 Lacerte product offering. But as Phoebe stated, those customers who are using it are seeing a bunch of time savings. Try it for free and see for yourself. I think you’ll be surprised at what you find...
