It means one of the other stations is using the program and only one station is allowed to use the program at a time. Could someone, maybe you have left it on another station. Go, find out what station it is on, and work there. Or close it out of that station, and then you can get into that return. If you are the boss, you can have the other station close out the return and then you can do what you want on your computer with that file.

If you are on a network however and the Proseriese program you install was a stand allone version, when you go and try to save it will give you the sharing violation error as well.

The "admin" and/or any other workstations cannot have the same file open at the same time. They can both work in ProSeries, but just not on the same file at the same time.

Also, when I was using the stand-alone version, I had never received the error message that a previous respondent mentioned???

I know that.

No body else in the workstation has the file open. And when some body else has it open it gives another type of message.

Sharing violations may occur when ProSeries is unable to access a client file. You may receive a sharing violation when:

1. The file is being used by another workstation.

2. The user does not have rights to access the file.

3. The path to the file is too long.

4. The drive is full.

5. The file is open by another application.

Please be sure that the ProSeries folder is shared and allowed full control for all users.

I have experienced the same issue. I get around it by doing a 'save as' in place of just a 'save'. Also, if I try to save again after printing, the same thing happens, even with the 'save as' process so I just add 'Final' to the title of the file.

Some times it is a problem with the network because the file is in use in other workstation or the rules in the network it is not allowing to save in the Work Stations, only in the main computer.

I have also experienced this issue. I found that closing the program and restarting eliminates the error message. I also found that notwithstanding the error message, I did not experience any data loss upon reopening the return. By the way, my program is installed on only one workstation, so there cannot possibly be a sharing violation and the file cannot possibly be in use by another process or person. I believe it is a flaw in the program.
