I just started using quickbooks and my opening bank balance was a negative becacuse we have an overdraft. When I opened quickbooks next, it showed roughly 42M. When I go to correct the opening bank balance and with the negative number it won't let me because it says the subtotal of a deposit can't be negative.
What happened and how do I fix it?
If you see account balances changing like that you may have entered a wild trasaction by mistake - those can always be deleted to correct the problem,
But if the balance seems to change on its own you may corrupted the data file somehow - perhaps by shutting off your computer without first closing quickbooks? Read up on how to "verify" and if necessary "restor" or "rebuild" your data.
Thank you. I think perhaps my data wascorrupted as the number in the bank account was not similar at all to what I entered. It wasn't even close. So I think perhaps my data was corrupted. Thank you for your help MikeinBC! It is greatly appreciated.
