I have a potential client that has filed an extension on his taxes and has asked me if I would be interested in preparing them for him. He is not a current client and I don't want to incurr a rep fee for him yet until I get a signed engagement letter from him. But I want to send him an organizer so he can organize the information that I will need. I can't figure out how to print this off for him. Anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.Thank you,
Go into the 2006 Lacerte program, and create a dummy file for this client, with the SSN 999-99-9999. That will allow for a free REP. If necessary, make this person's name come out on the dummy file as:
John 123-45-6789 Smith
(that is, real first name, real SSN as his middle initial, and real last name)
Or: make his occupation be "Writer 123-45-6789" so his SSN isn't right there where everyone can see his name.
You will be able to print an organizer for the dummy client -- I don't think it will even have "demo" on the pages, the way a "999" tax return would.
But if it does come out "demo," then you can always explain to him that it will come out only as a demo, if you do an organizer for a client that wasn't really on last year's tax system.
Yes, that's an easy way, too. I was thinking if the organizer were going to look like this person's info, that would be the way to do it: spend a little time setting them up in '06 as a dummy 999 file, but not spend money on an '06 REP fee.
