EveryWoman, are you saying that you haven't used your company file for several years so that the data in the file is several years out of date? Or did you start a new company file and just don't know how to set up your items, account, and so forth?
Haven't used qb program in a while, so starting over w/ 2010 for mac

Okay. If you're starting a brand-new company file, then I recommend that you download the user's guide and read through at least the first six chapters (which are included in Part I, "Getting Started with QuickBooks," and Part II, "Working with Lists"). Also, make sure you've fully updated QB 2010 for Mac.
Once you've set up done your company-file setup, you should also read:
To download the user's guide, go to QB's Help menu (not the toolbar) and choose "User's Guide." To update QB, go to the QuickBooks menu and choose "Check for QuickBooks Updates."
