Printer not activated error code -41

I am trying to email a statement to a customer. I get the message "Printer not activated error code -41". Then it goes on to tell me that no statements were printed because they had a zero balance (the account does owe money). I checked the account file and I have preferred send method as email and I have the correct email address! It worked last month! Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

This has only been a problem since I installed QB 2008. and it seems to come and go. but after i get it twice, then i goes away and i can create the report. this will happen for several days, then it's o.k. again for weeks or months, then it start doing it again. someone please help us both!

The link provided in answer by ERainesCCTS is broken as of now. I found the page in Google's cache, here is the relevant entry:

Error Code 41 or -41: Using older version activation code to activate a newer version
Source: e.g. using version 2.5 activation codes to enable a version 3.0 printer (If this error is not resolved by removing and reinstalling the PDF Converter, troubleshoot printer drivers)

This is typical of my entire experience with QB since I upgraded to QB 2007. Every new feature I try to use is broken, the online help is broken and the available help is so cryptic as to be useless. I would drop QB in a minute the experience is so bad, except it is the best product out there. Help, we are all being held hostage by crappy software.

Brian- I keep getting the same error when I try to email invoices in my QB pro 2008, i.e. the pdf converter is not converting...  I have followed every suggested repair, including repairing the QB and I'm now coming up with the error -41 message.  So I tried to repair  QB, deleted the pdf converter, installed the amyuni pdf converter, and now I'm right back to square one.  Is there any hope?

I am running QuickBooks Pro 2010 and Windows 7.  I cannot save as PDF from QuickBooks.  I have tried all the fixes that I can find, renaming, reinstalling the converter and repairing QuickBooks.  Nothing has worked.  I have also tried downloading updates and received a message that said no update was necessary.  I have received the error 41 code and the error 20 code at different times along my journey.   Sending out software that is not compatible is wrongity wrong wrong wrong.  QB needs to step up and fix this.  Help me Obi Wan.

Hello Bookkeeper,

Welcome to the community forums. I'm sorry to hear that you are getting the error code 41 when trying to email. To verify that you are on the latest updates for QuickBooks, open QuickBooks and hit your F2 key on the keyboard and it should bring up product information. On the top line it will display what release of QuickBooks 2010 you're using.

The latest updates for QuickBooks 2010 is currently R7.

You can find the latest updates at the following site - http://bit.ly/cP71li

Respectfully,
Bryan

The error code 41 I had was fixed by following the steps you detailed for historyfriend.  However, I still cannot print to regular printer.  I can send invoice by email.

Bryan, either you are a computer generated figment of my imagination or, you didn't read my email.  I cannot generate a PDF from QuickBooks.  I do not have email problems.  Please address the PDF issue with QuickBooks 2010 and Windows 7.  Thank you

Hi Bookkeeper425,

I'm sorry I should have explained the reason I sent you the solution I sent. The PDF issues and email issues are caused by the same problem and most of these issues have been fixed in the latest release of QuickBooks 2010, so that is why I sent you a link to download the latest updates for QuickBooks.

Have you downloaded the latest updates and installed them, if so, are you still having PDF issues?

I have been unable to email and print invoices from Simple Start 2010 on my Windows 7 laptop, the issue supposedly being that QB and Microsoft Live Mail are incompatible.  Today I purchased Windows Outlook and am once again attempting to email and print invoices from my Windows 7 laptop.  I have been able to print but am still unable to email.  I have tried all the remove/rename pdf converter solutions to no avail.  My latest error is the quickbooks printer not activated error -41.  HELP!!!!! please?

Don't hold your breath thinking that the hand waving answer of the Intuit community will help.

Deleting and playing with settings DOES NOT WORK.

The Ayumani Driver is as good as toilet paper, and now that I have ranted here is the ONLY SOLUTION THAT WORKS 100% OF THE TIME:

1. Download and install Bullzip Printer, make sure to allow Ghostscript to be installed as well.

2. Open Quickbooks

3. Go to File -> Printer Setup

4. Select the Online option

5. From the pulldown list, select Bullzip.

6. Go ahead and email your invoice. OMG! It works!!!!!

7. Go ahead and save as PDF. OMG! It works!!!!

No offense to the Intuit software programmers, I have worked as a system engineer for 12 years and part of the role I have done is testing of complex software systems. Breaking code, debugging it and telling the guys how to fix it. I am also REALLY GOOD at workarounds.

Fair warning: When you update to any RXX you will need to redo steps 2 through 7. None of their releases EVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. Can we throw something at the QA guys at Intuit? Better yet, hire me as a consultant for 30 hours and I will tell you how to fix this in R12.

Nope! I did work. thanks to nykronimicom for that info. That was freaking awesome!

That QuickBooks PDF converter made me waste 2 hours trying to solve this issue.

Bullzip worked right away.

It was very frustrating not being able to find a solution from Intuit that easily solved the problem.  I went from one solution to the next as I searched Intuit's site and the web and nothing worked for me.  I installed the BullZip PDF printer and it worked for me.  Now I can go on with my life.

Bullzip did the trick for me (thanks nykronimicon!)

I've been on QB-Pro since about 2004. This is still failing on QB 2010 Pro R13 (which automatically installed earlier this week), and as luck would have it the day before invoicing and payroll. I too have been a QA and Test Engineer throughout my career, and it is appaling to see this issue come and go in a relapse type of fashion.

Even worse most of the links on the community that refer to these types of problems take you to "Sorry, vapor support was here, but now it is gone", leaving one to dig through google, or worse yet call tech support for a simple printer problem and being connected to someone with far less skill.

Moreover, to inflict this miserable bug on 2010 R13 in nearly the 4th quarter of 2011 after it has manifested for years across multiple versions is deplorable.

Intuit, I have relied on your software for years and will probably continue to do so, but other than a data corruption bug I experienced years ago, this has got to be the most annoying bug I personally have run into on your products and has caused me hours (if not days) of wasted time. Jesus tap-dancing Christ!

Hooray!  Intuit has finally provided a solution to this problem.  Of course the classic disclaimer, "It worked for me" applies here.

Assuming it does work for you, intuit couldn't have made it any easier to apply the fix.

Just download and run this script/program.
