Print Signature on Checks
Is it possible to scan a signature in to QB and have it printed on the checks when I issue them?

No, and it would also be very dangerous to do so. You would lose complete control of the funds going out of the company checking account as anyone can just print out checks with your signature and go. In many cases, the banks don't even return the cancelled checks in the monthly statements anymore. Why would you want to do this? Are you so busy that you cannot even sign your name on your checks? Is it just me or does anyone else feel like automation is taking over everything today. We cannot, or don't want, to do anything manually anymore. Regardless of how simple it is.
Joey I would like to reply to your message.
I too would like to have the option of printing signature on checks. As far as loosing control in Quickbooks Pro 2006 my company file as well as my entire computer is password protected by fingerprint from digitalpersona. As far as why someone would want to do this? We own two fast food restaurants 25 employees each, which are open till 9pm nightly. It is generally 11:00pm when we get home, midnight before deposits are finished,1am before all receipts, handwritten checks, etc. are all entered. Payroll is done weekly. So yes after an 18 hour day and hand signing 50 checks not including Vendors for the day and bills which can sometimes be as many as 70 checks total then I guess I am a little busy. Maybe thats simple for you but brother if automation will cut that time even a little, then thats a few minutes earlier I can get in bed before 6AM starts all over again.
You can purchase check signing equipment or digital signing software, but the prices are outrageous for small businesses. It would be cheaper to hire a good bookkeeper to cut your workload, and sign the checks manually.
To see check signers, go to Google or Yahoo and search on "Check Signing".
I can appreciate how you feel. But I have also had to help clients file police reports and go to court for persons in their own company embezzling funds and stealing checks that are later cashed. As bad as the theft rates and the Identity theft is today, I'm just very aware of the risks involved. As long as you have considered all that and you still want the checks signed for you without you're having to actually look upon the documents before they go out of the checking account, then I pray for your financial safety. Good luck to you.
I was also signing in to ask if there was a way to print a signature on my employee's checks.I wanted to comment.
I personally rather sign their check myself and have done so thus far. However, now we have two new employees and their first check was last week, hand signed by me. The problem is, niether has a bank account and they are going through one of these check cashing companies to get their money. These places require 2 forms of (picture)ID from these employees which they do not have (only one)and they are requiring either the checks to be printed signature (or stamped) or the employer there to verify. Personally I think it's all ridiculous, but my employees need their checks.
If they go to the bank that the check is actually drawn on (your bank) and they have a driver's license, it should be fine. The reason the other places want more information is because your check is from another bank than they use. Your own bank can verify that the check is good immediately and that you haven't stopped payment on that check so they are not so demanding.
Tell them to go to your bank instead of the loan sharks they are using now.
That isn't necessarily true. We have had problems with employees not able to cash handwritten checks. We had to threaten to leave our bank(which is a very large bank) for them to allow our employees to cash their check at the bank it is drawn on.
I also would like this feature. My old job I used MAS90 and had to hand stamp up to 3,000 checks a DAY!! After we scanned all the signatures into the program I gained almost 6 hours a week of extra time to do real work because it took that long to stamp all those checks. But with my new employer everything is in quick books and we have to stamp or hand sign everything. This is the only way I found to do it is to scan the signature then copy and past it in a Word document. Set up the position correctly and PASSWORD protect (file, save as, tools (top right of file save screen), security options, then put in your passwords, hit ok and you will then have to reenter your passwords). The only problem with this is that you have to send the checks through QuickBooks to print then word to sign, but if you are doing a bunch of checks it only takes two seconds to take the stack from the printer and put back in the tray to send through again.
Your response is so dramatic. I think everyone is well aware of the security implications--printing the signature on a check is no less secure than using a signature stamp (which more and more companies use all the time). Also another reason to balance your accounts at least monthly.
I used to spend at least an hour signing payroll checks for more than 100 employees every two weeks until I purchased a check printing program called "VersaCheck". Now I print all checks on blank check stock with company logo and signature.
The software costs $85 but the money we saved by using blank check stock instead of pre-printed checks has paid for the program and also offsets the extra cost of the "micr" toner cartridges.
The program interfaces seamlessly with quickbooks and its very easy to setup the accounts and design checks.
I scanned my signature into MS word and played with the position of the signature until it printed on plain paper and located itself on the signature line of a voucher check. I run the checks through the printer twice. IT works and it is secured with a password.

Regarding the Business with employees not having bank accounts. Here is an alternative. I'm suggesting this because some bank in my aread charge 5 bucks for non-account holders to cash a check drawn on that bank! AWFUL practice. To pay 5 dollars just to cash a check STINKS!
Have the employee sign the check back over you and you pay them cash. You still have a record of payment, they have their money and no bank charges to them. Many of my bars and restaurants do this. Employees aren't making big checks and to have a big chunk taken out in check cashing fees, really bugs me!
Just an idea!
Debbie
Scanning your signature into paint then cutting and pasting on the correct location of excel works fine. All checks are brought to me. I simply add them into my printer and press print.
There is nothing illegal or Risky about this- set up a password for your specific personal documents.

QB 2010 (I assume all versions) has the capability to add a signature from within the program itself. From the printer setup screen for checks/paychecks you can select to add a signature in a graphic file. I would assume that you could have two signatures by making each smaller. I haven't tried it yet but it should work. Of course this presupposes you have satisfied yourself as to security issues. Good luck.
2009 doesn't. :(
I think I may upgrade to 2010 just for this feature alone! Thanks!
This is a new feature that was added to the 2010 version and is of course available in the 2011 as well. It is user specific as well.
"If you use QuickBooks user names and passwords, the signature file is stored by user name and company. If you do not have multiple user names and passwords, the Admin is the implicit user."
You can get the details on the requirements of the signature image by going to Help and search for Add your signature to checks and paychecks.
