Print IRS 1096 & 1099 Forms
I have IRS 1099 and 1096 forms for the year 2012. My problem is when they print from quickbooks 2013 for Mac, the text is off a field. How do i adjust the printing area so it shifts everything down on the page?

I'd call to see if there is an update for QB Mac.
Why would you answer like this? Yes my software is up to date. Then problem is lining up the fields to they print properly. I know what Quickbooks is doing this. They want you to purchase their own tax forms, where as i can get from the IRS directly for free.
RE: Why would you answer like this?
Because that is the best course of action for you to take.

Well, in order to get the fields to align, you have to wait for Intuit to update QuickBooks. Or, if they already did then support can tell you how to get that update.

Oh?
RE: They want you to purchase their own tax forms, where as i can get from the IRS directly for free.
Intuit's 1099 forms are laid out exactly like the ones you buy elsewhere. All fileable 1099's (the red copies) have exactly the same metrics, which is the point of the red drop out ink. The black ink you print, which is all scanners see, has to be in a particular position for the tax year, based on the design of the form for that year. The scanners find the data based on it's exact position on the form.
You need to get a software update in order to change the way the data lands on the form. And, since you indicate you have all the updates, then you need to call support. You will then either find out that you need another update you don't have, and how to get it, or that there is no update yet.
Thanks for the response. I will call Intuit about this. Wondering if anyone else using the same version software had problems with IRS forms.
I don't print the forms but if there is an alignment option it will be from the print window. Check all available tabs there.
There is an alignment setting, but it moves the whole form around on the page (not individual fields.) If one field is out of alignment compared to the others then you may need a software update to get it to align, or else your 1099's will be scanned incorrectly.
Sorry i should have clarified. All the fields match up, but just shifted upwards. Where is this alighment tool? Is it in the print screen? I tried to find something but was un able too. I just need everything shifted down a tad.
Geez I am so stupid. It was right in front of me. Alighment check box. We are now good to go.
Actualy I did find an issue. I can highlight the alignment check box but only when i go to print 1099. If I select 1096 i dont get this special box. Intuit please fix this mess.
To be sure the developement team is aware of this use quickbooks>quickbooks feedback. Provide as much detail as possible, OS, printer etc, so they can duplicate this and make the necessary corrections.
The alignment setting for the 1099 also is used for the 1096. So, if you shift one form up and over a bit, the other will have the same settings (as the two forms should use the same adjustments, given your printer.)

I've been looking into this and the only alignment issue I see is a minor one - the Xs on the 1096 are slightly outside of the boxes for fields 6 and 7 but still within the overal box.
I am using QB Pro 2010 with 1096 & 1099-MISC forms directly from the IRS. Yes, my software is fully updated. Yes, I have reported the problem to Support.
The 1099-MISC forms print passably, with the only problem being that the RECIPIENT'S City, state, and ZIP code field is almost out of the bottom of the box.
The 1096 form is off in numerous places. The entire form should be raised by 1mm EXCEPT the 'X' for the 1099-MISC field. Then the entire form should be moved left 2mm. Then the 1099-MISC field should be moved left 3mm more.
Right now on the 1096 form the FILER'S City, state, and ZIP code field is out of the bottom of the box, & the final return & 1099-MISC 'X" fields are completely out of the boxes by quite a bit.
I have this problem with QuickBooks' 1096/1099 forms every year that the IRS changes the layout of the form...which is just about every year. You would think that Intuit would get a copy of the new form when it comes out (which was weeks/months ago) & have this resolved by January 1st. It's ridiculous. If the software won't produce useable forms, then they should give us the ability to move fields around so that they do fit.
