I buy coupons and use them on purchases for my sales inventory. How would I enter a coupon purchase and its application to a purchase?

You enter the actual amount paid for the items, the coupons are not booked separately

how does it work, you spend $10 for a coupon worth ? as a discount
I buy them from private parties. I might spend $5 for a coupon worth $30 and apply it to a purchase from the vendor.

as I see it, and I am not a CPA, the Five you spend in an expense, the 30 you get is an income and should be booked to a "coupon" bank account, then when you enter the bill you use the coupin bank account to write a check for that amount, and pay the balance
