make sure you are both on the same version with updates. we had the problem till our server was updated as well.

Thanks, will have to check that out. I thought we were...the default is for automatic updates now..so it's likely that we were.?A Dios! (lit. To God!)

Did they use Portable Company File>Open ?

Thanks, Karl, I'm the one who created the file...so I'm pretty sure I would have followed that logical path..It was under File menu as I recall...it made the file, which was about 10% the size of the backup. He couldn't restore it, tho'. Assumed it was a bug. This was hmmm...two weeks ago, maybe 2 1/2..in release land.?A Dios! (lit. To God!)
I have used the Portable file and it worked great. 176Mb file regular was only 26Mb for portable. Moving it by ftp was much much faster.

I am using pro 2005. is this portable file available in this version? or are you just referring to back up and restore? I back up and restore, how does the client continue to update his file while you have the backup and may be doing some modifications?
The Portable file format is only available in 2006. I it is not a substitute of the Accountant's Review.
It is a smaller substitute for having a backup of the data file.
I had an issue where with several clients, QuickBooks would have an error in opening their portable company files. I called QuickBooks and they told me I needed to make sure I was opening the portable file FROM and opening it TO a local hard drive. It actually worked. Don't know why it would have errors just because I was working of a network drive. It's a little inconvenient to have to copy it to a local hard drive and then copy it back to the network, but it worked at least.
