- Depending on your e-mail service, you may be able to attach that QuickBooks Portable file (QBM) as an attachment to an e-mail most e-mail service limit the file size to about 7 to 10 MB. Google will go high as 20 MB.
- Copy it to flash drive or CD and send it through mail.
- Use a File Transfer Service.

What are the requirements for opening the file on the other end? Must the e-mail recipient have the same version of QB installed on their computer?

If you are expecting a copy back from the recepient on the other end then it must be the same version.
If the other person will be opening to just get the financial data for tax purpose and they are not going to send back copy then they can open the QBM in the same version or higher version.
