point of sale software for restaurants

Hi! I am a POS software provider, but my group is based in the Philippines. I can suggest the more reputable restaurant POS providers from the US -- Micros (if ou have the budget to burn - this is the Rolls Royce of POS systems), Aloha, and Restaurant Manager. Pixel Point from Canada is also a good restaurant POS system.



As far as I can remember, only Restaurant Manager is listed in Intuit's Marketplace of third party software that can interface or link with QuickBooks. But if your clients are IT-savvy, they can interface QuickBooks with virtually any of the POS systems available in the market by using QODBC -- a software that allows users to export data into QuickBooks from another system (like a POS software).



But the Achilles' heel of most POS systems is the restaurant inventory part of the system. What I can share with you is for your clients to ask the POS vendor the following questions with regards to the inventory and production features of the system:



1. Is their a limit in the nesting of the recipe or bill of materials for any finished product? The ideal response is "there is no limit".



2. Can I perform a "variance analysis" of my raw material or ingredient consumption? In other words, can I get a report that tells me that I have over-used or under-used an important ingredient (based on standard recipe) in any of the menu items that I have sold and by how much ($) and how many (in weight, volume, or pcs) is the difference from my standard recipe? This is an important feature to determine pilferage or deviation from your recipe.



3. Can I get my daily food cost (in $ and %) compared to my sales for the day? This is a good metric to determine if you are within your budget cost of sales.

I have been using Tamion's AccuTouch POS software for over 3 years and I love it.

We evaluated all the others and they were nowhere close to the Tamion products.

Hello,

Am in the same shoes as A-Equipment, I have to make recommendations.

I need to information on a POS software and hardware that can used for a retail store. The store is going to have a web front. I would want a software that can sync both the live store and the online store together.

So please recommend a POS that can work with Mysql database, and hardwares that can be used with it. Its a small business.

I don't use mySQL any longer. I much prefer one of Intuit's other products - QuickBase. QuickBase runs circles around mySQL in terms of friendliness and ability to customize it on the fly. I am so impressed with QuickBase. I've recently learned how to sync a QuickBase inventory tracking application with QuickBooks and an open source storefront created in Adobe's Flex. Pretty cool stuff. The Intuit programmers are amazing.



Have you looked into QuickBooks point of sale? For a retail store, it works really well [just not so well for restaurants]. You can get the option that includes all of the hardware required - cash register, bar code scanner, and credit card processor. Both QuickBooks and QuickBooks point of sale can be tied to an online store done in PHP or HTTP as well.

Looking to start a restaurant delivery service. I need a POS that is capable of catering to an unlimited number of restaurants' menus? Also, a POS that can dispatch drivers for delivery. Does anyone know of any?
