Phone quotes for bookkeeping
How do you handle quoting bookkeeping rates over the phone? I quoted an hour rate and told her I could not give her a monthly rate without a meeting to go over her situation. How do you handle these questions?

The solution
Before I quote hourly rates I ask them questions about their business--how are they doing their accounting now, what kind of help are they looking for, etc. Then, I'll tell them how I can help them and finally I will discuss rates. If they are just 'price shopping' and looking for the lowest rate, you don't want them as a client anyway. They are usually a pain and will leave when they find someone cheaper.
