I have moved to the Houston area 4 months ago and I have been looking for contract work ever since. I still work for the international company I used to in IL, on consulting basis now, and that leaves me with a lot of time on my hands to take up other part-time/consulting/contract jobs. I have a degree in Business/Managerial Accounting, worked as Accounting Manager for multimillion companies for the past 15 years and I always had extremely positive results. My professional attitude and knowledge is being recognized constantly and it is the reason why the company I work for now, did not want to let me leave, but made all possible arrangements to keep me on board.
I am looking for people like you to pass along contract jobs. This may include day-to-day duties (AP, AR, GL, financial statements preparation, reporting, banking etc). I was never crazy about getting involved with taxes, but have done simple returns in the past.

I have create a network of CPA, through networking groups, that I can call upon to assist me with these types of issues. You can call your local CPA society and see if they can recommend someone to you, and then I suggest that you get involved in some networking groups, and make contact and friends with CPA's in your area. Not every CPA wants to do bookkeeping as part of their practice so it could be a good source of clients for you also.
