Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Password protect pdf

Bullzip was not good, after I downlaoded, it wanted me to buy a winzip16. So I did the trial version. A test email still required the client to download software. ANy optons that do not require client to download software if password protected?

If you are looking for encryption, all of the programs that I have used require the client to download something and register.  For my seniors, this is often confusing and unproductive.  If all you want is a password protected file, I use DMS.  I "print" all of my Organizers, Tax Returns and Source Docs to DMS which creates a pdf folder for each doc..  When a client requests the pdf file it creates you can highlight the specific file and choose Email from the tool bar above.  A box will open with the Client's email address prefilled (assuming you have it in the Info Worksheet of their return.)  Mark the box at the bottom "Password protect all PDF documents sent in this e-mail."  Then mark "Create Email".  You will be prompted to add a Password, then hit send.  When the Client receives the email and tries to open the attached file, they will be asked to insert the Password.  For security, I either call the Client with the password, or pre-set it up with them (ie last 5 of their SS#), or send a second email with the password.

The receipient still needs to have Adobe reader installed, at the very least.

I've played around with bullzip all morning and don't get any of the problems that you reported.

Tilt53,

You are correct.  As it is free to download and necessary for all pdf files, it is certainly the first step before the issue of passwords is addressed.  I forget sometimes that not everyone has it.  Most websites offer link to free download of reader if users need to view or use site or services.
