PA Sch G-S override and e-file
Lacerte : 2011Why the difference in "critical diag warnings" preventing e-file, in 2011 vs 2010, when I have to override "income subject to tax in the other state?" I was going to put in exactly the same type of override as I did in past years (when I e-filed successfully) but this year got an error message that overriding the "amount subject to tax in other state" would make it impossible to e-file. Mind you, this is not the same thing as overriding the credit itself. This was simply reducing the amount of the numerator, so that Harrisburg wouldn't pull the same nasty stunt on the taxpayer that they did years ago.
Years ago, we tried to use what we thought was Lacerte's very reasonable calculation of the Delaware wages, as the doubly-taxed wages. But Harrisburg came back a few months later and said "Taxpayer, you owe us more money. We see you had a Delaware itemized deduction schedule which reduced the amount ultimately taxed. We reduced your numerator down to this figure of wages-minus-itemized-deductions." So ever since, I've been pro-actively reducing the numerator to the figure that I know would be acceptable to Harrisburg.
Why won't Lacerte let me do that same thing for 2011?
It seems stupid to have to paper-file the return all of a sudden, because Lacerte changed its program all of a sudden. Or will this be changed back to "if you want to reduce your credit by reducing your numerator, be our guest?" And if so, when do you expect to be able to accomplish such a change to the program?
