Hi tina5star,
Because e-mail isn't secure, QuickBooks password protects pay stub .pdf. Your employees will need the password to see their pay stubs. This password is automatically generated from the employees' name and social security number.
Typically, it is 8 characters long. The first four characters are the first four letters of the employee's last name. The next four characters are the last four digits of their social security number.
For example:
1. If the employee's name is Ben Narramore with SSN 855-56-4545, then the password is narr4545.
2. If the employee's name is Deb D'Spain with SSN 782-34-3419, then the password is dspa3419.
3. If the employee's name is Jimmy Wu with SSN 903-88-7465, then the password is wu7465.
Hope that helps!
My employees are not able to open the pdf at all. It is showing up as an attachment, but when they click to open the attachment they get an error message (not sure of the wording). They never get to the point where they can even put in their password. That dialogue never pops up. Thanks for the answer anyway!
Sorry about that tina5star. If you can get the exact wording, I can see if we can help determine what's wrong with the .pdf.
There is also another option that QuickBooks payroll has for you to provide your employees their paystubs called ViewMyPaycheck.
ViewMyPaycheck allows you to send the pay stubs electronically, so that your employees have access to them online. You can find more details for using ViewMyPaycheck here:

Hope that helps.
