"On Call" Mileage Deduction?
ProSeriesNew client, a hospital worker, is sometimes "on call" on weekends; he normally works Mon. thru Friday. Would the mileage when he is needed during the weekend, to his normal job location, be considered unreimbursed employee expenses, rather than commuting? Client states he has always deducted it, as do his co-workers. I have never heard of this and don't see the logic in it, although I admit there is plenty that I've never heard of. I found some older posts regarding "call back" mileage (going back to work on the same day), and there seemed to be differing opinions on whether that was commuting or "2nd job" mileage.
