not calculating tax on some items on sales receipt

QuickBooks Point of Sale

When I put some items on sales receipt it does not calculate any sales tax even though this item is set to taxable. If I go into item description and click on tax then go back to sales receipt the tax then calculates. This does not happen with every item but enough that I have to double check every receipt to make sure tax was calculated on every item.

I can't say that i have seen this and that sounds like something is wrong.  Is it possible that you have more that one tax code setup and that one of those tax codes does not have a rate associated with it?  You can check in company preferences.

Also, you may want to add a couple of column to the sales receipt so that you can see the tax and tax rate without having to open/edit the item.  Sorry V10 users, you don't have this functionality.

Steve, Thanks I agree that something is set up wrong but I can't find it. This is for a client of mine and I'm a proadvisor but not for POS. I think it is strange that if I click on that item on sales receipt and then into edit screen for that item all I have to do is click on the tax selection (that already says taxable) and then exit the edit screen and it's calculates the tax for that item.  I don't change anything. In one specific sales receipt that I entered there were 6 items, 5 of them didn't calculate the sales tax and 1 of them did. Unfortunately this brings a bigger issue if she doesn't catch it, the sales tax liability report is wrong.

Did  you figure out the problem? We are having a similar problem. It happened when we tried adding another sales location for a different state.

I'm having the same problem. It has just recently started. I've had no problem previously and have done nothing new.

i know that you posted this over a year ago but i've got a new client that is having the same issue with sales tax not being applied correctly. Did you ever determine the problem?

If you are using Microsoft Excel, export your entire item list and reimport.  I have had this solution work in the past.  Follow the link below for more details.
