Non-profit Volunteer

Non-Profit volunteer as consultant and bookkeeper.

Does anyone have experience providing services to a non-profit and if so do you have thoughts about the opportunity to provide those services at a future date on a paid basis?

I am planning to use my expertise gained here and with all the proadvisor training to target the non-profit sector.

It seems that there is a great need for qualified consultants and bookkeepers to assist them.

I have about seven years experience with a 501(c) 3 organization as their bookkeeper.

So yes, I have quite a bit of non-profit experience. There is absolutely a large market out there for experienced bookkeepers and consultants. There is a lot of focus out there around non-profits keeping good financial records. People are becoming much more curious about the organizations they are donating too. The government is also tightening the bootstrings on filing requirements (new in 2010 was the postcard mandatory file for all non-profits, not just those with revenues over $25,000).

Thanks for your answer. That gives me just a little more to go on as far as opinions about this area.

I was looking to get more than one response to this very important research question so I will leave this open in the hopes others will respond with more views.

It seems to me that there is a view, and I am not sure if I don't believe it to some extent, that non-profits can't seem to find funds to get professional help in dealing with their bookkeeping issues.

I will try to listen to the radio show for more answers. I have tried getting info there before but haven't figured out how to just get info I am interested in versus catching the whole program.
