Are there any recommendations on books for Non-Profit accounting? (specific to QuickBooks would be great!) I have recently picked up a Non-Profit client and it has been too many years since Governmental Accounting in college! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I recommend the CD for nonprofit from Intuit. It shows how to post and handle transactions for nonprofits.
I also boght a book, "Running QuickBooks in Nonprofits", by Kathy Ivens. It is basicly a Quickbooks books that mention some concepts or terminology for nonprofit accounting, but do not provide real information on how to post or handle nonprofit transactions. I think I need to try another book.

Can you tell me where to find the nonprofit CD you are referring to?
We've had exactly the opposite reaction from our nonprofit clients - they found the CD wasn't helpful and found that the Ivens books is excellent - it does NOT just explain concepts and terminology, it offers precise, easy to understand, instructions on how to create transactions for nonprofits, how to build reports you need, it's full of day to day instructions, which our clients felt were missing from the CD.
on quickbooks website. At least you have two options now that you can try. The book is cheaper, so maybe you want to start with that.
I had a client get the CD for Non-Profits. Client tried everything the CD suggested and really messed up the books. Learning QB for Non Profits without understanding the accounting behind it, keeps me in business getting everything straighten out. My client's bookkeeper can write checks but that is the extent of her accounting knowledge. I don't recommend the QB's CD to users who don't have some accounting background
