No retained earnings account
I am setting up my company, putting in the opening balances. And I do have seem to have a Retained Earnings account in my Chart of Accounts. Why is this? Did I miss something?

Open the chart of accounts. Double-click each equity account. The one that opens as a Report and not a Register is RE, no matter what it is called. It likely is named Owner.
It looks to me as though the type of organization I selected in the setup process may be limiting types of equity accounts that Quickbooks created.
there are only 4 equity accounts listed 1. Opening Balance Equity. 2. Permanently Restricted Net Assets, 3. Temporarily Restricted Net Assets and 4. Unrestricted Net Assets.
None of them opens to a report.

All files have OBE. The others are renamed for Not For Profit organizational use.
Unrestricted Net Assets, when you double-click it, should NOT open as a register but as a report. This is Retained Earnings, renamed for NFP use. Double-click it.
Or, look at the bottom of the chart of accounts. If the "include inactive" is active, checkmark it. Perhaps RE is hidden.
