No password is set, but I get an Error: Associate Password Incorrect

QuickBooks Point of Sale

On Quickbooks POS 10, I sometimes get an incorrect password error for associates when they try to login to the POS.  At first I thought they were making a typo, but it even happens on accounts that do not have a password set.  The only way to correct this problem is to exit Quickbooks, which is not currently set to not allowed without an admin logged in.
