Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

No Assets after new install

EasyAcct

Since we have updated our EasyAcct, we have no fixed assets. If we go to enter assets, we get "Index File Corrupted, Please run File Index Repair to rebuild asset Records". After that, no assets are listed. Customer service is no help.

We should be able to recover them using these steps:

  1. Locate and restore the program-generated automatic backup of your company. Note that when restoring the backup, be sure to restore it to a diffferent directory (i.e. C:\EASYW\BACKUP). If it's a new directory the program will prompt you to create it, just be sure to make note of where you restored the backup.
  2. Then click Goto > Company Selection.
  3. Change the Current Data Path to the location where you restored the backup in step 1.
  4. Go to EasyACCT Utilties, and select EasyACCT Client Transfer.
  5. Select to transfer to the EasyACCT Business System.
  6. Indicate a Data Path for the Transfer File (i.e. C:\EASYW\TRANSFER).
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Check mark the Asset Records to Transfer.
  9. Click Begin Transfer.
  10. Return to the Company Selection screen.
  11. Change the Current Data Path to the normal data path for the company.
  12. Open the company.
  13. Go to EasyACCT Utilities, Client Transfer.
  14. This time select to transfer from the EasyACCT Business System.
  15. Indicate the path as the same one in step 6.
  16. Answer yes to review the entires.
  17. Click Begin Transfer.
  18. Open the Asset Depreciation module, go to Data File Utilities, and select Data File Index Repair.
  19. Review your assets to  make sure everything is ok, you may need to click calculate current to bring them up to date...probably not though.

NOTE:  it is possible that you could receive an error message around steps 14-17.  If you do, please search our online knowledgebase for that error, there are great online articles that walk you through fixing those errors.

If I do that procedure for 800 clients with depreciation schedules, I may as well take a header off of the roof.  That will take most of my remaining tax season to do that.  Not a very good solution.   I have use EasyAcct for 15 yrs., never had this problem.

This is happening on all of your customers?  That indeed is very peculiar.  Do you happen to have a case number from speaking with tech support?

Problem was resolved when we updated last Thursday.  We were told that it was not a software problem.  We had our system checked and there were no problems on our end.  Once we got the next update, the problem went away.
