Need to see old date range details in P&L MAC

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2012

QuickBooks 2012 for Mac
How do I get P&L details for a date range that is not current. All the report shows is the current fiscal year even though I change the date range.

Changing the date range from the dropdown list and/or manually should auto-refresh the report, if you are not seeing this submit a report through the quickbooks>quickbooks feedback option.

Thanks for the try but do you really think that I am so stupid that I did not change the dates.  Give me a break.   When I run a P&L for last fiscal year and click on an account to see the detail, it gives me all the items making up that total.  If I then would like to see the detail for 5 years ago, I change the date range to the dates 5 years ago.  But the report refuses to show me any details for 5 years ago....only last fiscal year.  If you don't know what I'm talking about please don't send me another patronizing answer.  You've wasted enough of my time.

This is a volunteer forum and most of us are QB Users like you.  We are trying to help so please be courteous and understanding.  With the huge volumn of posts on here, you would be surprised how many people don't know the details -- like changing the dates on the reports.  So, please be kind and provide enough details and info for someone to assess you knowledge level.  Otherwise, how do we know?

As to your problem -- have you condensed or archived the data in the file?   Can you see the data for older periods in the check register?  It sounds like the data has been condensed or maybe a new file was created?

I apologize for being rude.  But I feel like a woman taking her car into a dealership with a problem and they treat her like she doesn't know what she's talking about.  Believe me, I know what I am talking about.  I have been using QuickBooks for Windows since 1997 and have been doing the accounting for 8 companies.  I just switched to a Mac recently and the program is garbage compared to QB for Windows.

Surely someone out there can help me.  Perhaps I have some preference set wrong or something inane like that.  All the data is there and active.  None of the data has been archived in any way.  I can see every check written in the register since 1997.  There must be some solution to this.  It's insane.  Can't someone help?

I am unclear - you said you run the  P&L and then drill down, then change the dates and the report is blank. Are you changing the dates on the drill down? (which won't work) or the original P&L?

In the P&L, I run it for 1/1/11 thru 12/31/11.  I click on an expense account to see the detail that makes up the total.  It works.  I then want to see what was there last year so (on the same detail page I just did) I change the BEGIN date to 1/1/10.  I get no detail for 2010.

I appreciate that you say that will not work.  I just assumed the Mac version worked as well as the Windows version.  Obviously it does not.

Thanks for your help.

There's no reason that changing the dates on the Expense account drilldown from the P & L shouldn't work. Not a problem at all. I do it all the time.

Hammabooks, are you also changing that END date - you mention only changing the BEGIN date? If, by chance, you left the END date as something in 2011, you won't see the detail for that expense account in 2010 because it's all been rolled into Retained Earnings when you cross a fiscal year, and shows at the top of the report as a balance forward. (Are you seeing Retained Earnings at the top of the report?)

This is an aspect of the Mac version that doesn't differ from QB for Win at all.

Yes, your are right.  It works that way.  Thank you.  BUT for the record....this is NOT the same as the Windows version.  I used the Windows version for over 15 years and it always gave me multiple years' detail if I put in a date range of, say, 1/1/09 thru 12/31/11.

But thanks for the insight.  I can learn to live with this weakness in the Mac version.
