When you log in and the box comes up for a user name, try putting your cursor on the name that comes up, backspace to clear it out and type your user name in and enter your password.

Hi Lynda:

That's the problem - the user name is not displayed at all. Only the password. I know there are multiple accounts, but it says I need to enter the password to log in as (admin).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Boy that is strange.  Do you know the login for the Admin?

Hello solutionmakers,

It does sound like it is defaulting to the admin user. This can happen if the file is in a process that requires the admin login (like upgrading or adding users to name a few). As lynda suggested, try using the admin password. If that doesn't work, If this doesn't work, I created a wiki article that will guide you through our password removal tool. It also discusses issues that can occur when you use this tool. I hope this you can help you get into your file and back to business.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. If it does help, please consider marking it helpful or solved!

Best regards,

Amy K

I've been fighting the same problem all day on ONE computer.  We can log in fine from the other computers but ONE computer doesn't show a user name and only allows for the administrator's password.   I can log in as the administrator but nothing I've tried has given us the ability to log in as a different user on THAT machine.

I am having the same problem.  One machine is will not show a user name and only allows for the administrator password.  ONE machine out of ten.

What could be causing this problem?

The Ctrl key did not help.  I also removed the admin password, and it just logged me straight into the file as Admin.  It did not ask for a password or give me the option to login as any other user.

 Dear All,

Looks like someone else had this issue and mine was resovled by following this:

I recently had a user that when he opened up Quickbooks, he could only log in as admin. The username box to enter another user account was not shown.

The issue with this is that the qbw32.exe service gets hung and even though the program is closed, the service is still running.

To resolve this problem, close Quickbooks and then go into the Task Manager>Processes tab, right click on the qbw32.exe service and then click End Process.

After doing this, open up Quickbooks and the username field should be visible again so you can log in as another user.
