Hello,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the community. One of the first things I would recommend is to do some research on the licensing requirements for your locality/ state. Here in Arizona, you are forbidden by law from doing certain types of work and/ or work over a certain dollar amount without having a contractors license.

I would also suggest you do some research by checking out sites like this, reading trade magazines and talking with others in the business. Feel free to come back and tell us the progress you are making in getting your new venture going.

Jim

Hi 69Cheavy,

Congratulation on the decision to start a small construction businesss.  Here are is a good book to get you started:

  • Start Your Own Construction and Contracting Business (Startup Series) by Entrepreneur Press

The book gives you a nice foundation on things you need to consider and provides a guideline for where to begin.  Be sure to make sure you are properly licensed as Jim mentioned.  Good Luck.

Wishing you productivity and prosperity,

Kim

This is really nice that you have decided to start your own business. I must tell you that its really a wonderfully feeling to have something of your own, where you are the boss and can take the decisions on your own.
But the road is not easy my friend. Before starting, you should make sure that you have done your homework correctly, like you have done proper marketing research about your business, have created a strong business plan and set up goals for yourself. You should also try to consult experts and read some good books on entrepreneurship.
