 Hi Carolyn,

What do you have done? Is the company file set up? It sounds like it.

To delete a transaction all you do is press the Command + D keys together. Re: deleting bills and invoices. Never delete a bill or invoice unless it was not meant to be produced. Meaning, if you send an invoice or receive a bill and you enter it you may want to void it or edit it for one reason or another, but you will not delete it from the system. The reason is because you need that "paper" trail for your records.

Sales Tax is turned on in the preferences. Make sure it is turned on and then create a Sales Tax Item. The system will help you.

Don't forget to use the Help menu. Just type in "Sales Tax" or "Delete". You will get some helpful articles or shown where the command is found.

Remember, use QuickBooks just the way you do your transactions. It should mimic your every action, not create new ones.

Ok thanks yea I might need to void if I made a invoice twice or something like that. I was watching videos on you tube trying to figure the sales tax out. I saw I need to put the tax code in and they say go to edit then preferences to do that but I do not have preferences under edit so I dont know why its not there or what I need to do to get it there. I did enter all my bills for jan and feb but now the only thing that needs done yet is to enter sales reciepts but I cant do that yet because of the sales tax

The U-Tube videos are for the Windows products.  While the theory behind many transactions are the same, there are some Windows features that don't exist in the Mac.  Sales Tax Codes is one of those.  Preferences in Mac 2010 and higher are found under the QuickBooks menu.

Little Square has some Mac videos.  Check it out: www.qblittlesquare.com/
