I have a small remote lodge generating $300k/yr in revenues with 2 employees. I need an accountant to handle bill payments, payroll, and tax preparation (but not returns). Ideally would like to use a shared on-line account so that I can access while traveling. The accountant can be remote. We have ten years of operating experience but now need someone to take on accounting. How do I find someone?

Online accounting often works in two distinct scenarios. The first one is similar to your situation in which a remote bookkeeper is using QuickBooks online and handles your day to day bookkeeping. This scenario requires a daily fax transmission or a daily scan of all of your source documents i.e. deposit ticks,receipts ,invoices,vendor bills,etc. There are outsourcing companies that perform this service either in the US or abroad. If you choose this scenario, then it’s important that your accountant monitor the record keeping function and make correcting adjustments when necessary by using QuickBooks online,otherwise the financial reports and ledger may not be accurate.
Alternatively, the second scenario is a little different from your situation. I believe this scenario makes sense for many small businesses providing you are willing to spend a little time each day. You now can have an online real time accounting system with QuickBooks and significantly reduce your bookkeeping costs by doing some of the work yourself or with the help from your family. You can now work from home or work anywhere as long as you have a PC with an internet connection. And best of all, you can have accurate information anytime you want.
All you have to do:
1) Pay your bills
2) Pay your employees
3) Bill your customers
4) Make the deposits
