moving clients to non-clients in DMS

Lacerte

I'm having trouble moving clients to non-clients in DMS. I can not drag and drop or any thing else to move them. I can create a new folder in the non-client section and then select all the folders belonging to that client and copy them to the new non-client folder and finally I can delete the client section folder. Very time consuming. Is there a better way?

What are you trying to accomplish? The non-client section was designed for documents that are not related to any one particular client.

We want to move the clients that are inactive there. They may no longer be clients but we still need access to their documents.

Easy fix: Highlight those clients. Assign them a category of "Individual Inactive" or whatever. Then just uncheck the Individual box for each of them. You can add a filter to the top left list to see those categories, etc.

The ability to move inactive clients to the non-client folder automatically would be a nice new feature.   Alternative wouild be to add ability to filter out inactive clients from primarily client view but I like macgvr's suggestion of moving to the separte non-client folder much better.

I think I would rather see a New Section titled "Inactive Clients" or something similar.  I do not want old clients in the Non-client Folders since I use that for other things.

I actually like this option. We have decided we might just move the inactive client folders out of  DMS and put them in an access restricted folder on our server but it would be nice if we could do something inside of DMS and an Inactive Clients folder would work nicely.

Here is what I have done to separate Active and Inactive Clients

1. Create new Categories for "Active Clients" and "Inactive Clients" using Menu > Edit > Categories

2. Created two new filters for Active Clients and Inactive Clients using Menu > Edit > Client Filters

3. Marked each client client as Active or Inactive using Assign Categories (note that you can batch mark clients by selecting multiple clients using either the shift or control keys and then selecting assign categories)

4. Now I can "Select Client Type" of Active or Inactive to restrict my displayed client list

When setting up a new client I would guess you would have to remember to mark them active to get them to show up on the list?  I suppose if you forget to mark the new client active they would not show up on the list?

Yes, that is true.  I have not found a way to get new clients to default to Active category.

You can switch to ALL Clients, find the client, and assign Active status.

I didn't say it was perfect, but it is the best I have come up with.
