Microsoft Retail Mgmnt POS / QB

Has anyone successfully integrated Microsoft's Retail Management POS software with QuickBooks?I have a retail client who is attempting to download information from The MS POS software into QB for financial reporting purposes. It's been an uphill battle. Microsoft refers you to the reseller, the reseller dosn't know and my experience with QB support regarding sw integration has been less than satisfying. We are close, but need help with the latest error message:"QBPost28 - Post of batch #338 failed. Quick Books error - There was an error when saving a General Journal transaction. QuickBooks error message: Sales tax detail line must have a vendor."Freya

When recording sales tax, you must put in the state as the vendor.

If you mean in the Item type "Sales Tax", the vendor is listed as the state taxing authority. The same agency is listed as a vendor in the MS POS system. Is there another place in QB to list the sales tax vendor?

Thanks, I assume you are talking in QB and I'm aware of that. The problem is, the MS POS system is creating the data that dumps into QB as a GJE. It aborts because and I get the error message referenced in my original email. I don't have an opportunity to put the vendor in the GJE on the QB end. So far, I can't even get to the data detail ie. the file being transferred)to figure out where the problem is. I'm missing something that I am sure is simple, but frustrating.

Finally, I've found someone who appears to have the same problem I have with trying to get some answers from Microsoft and QuickBooks. Unfortunately, like you, I am unable to get any good answers. Since you appear to have more experience with the Microsoft Retail Management System and QuickBooks integration, maybe you can answer this question.... "How can we automatically assign class to imported sales transaction from MRMS?" It appears that the integration is not as easy as implied. Please let me know what your experience has been and if the integration gets any easier... Thanks for your feedback.

I typed an extensive answer, but it seems to have been lost in cyberspace, hence the shorter version. In the off chance that you recieved the original version, if I repeat myself, excuse me. I am sure I was more eloquent the first time.

We did figure out the solution to our issue. I am not sure that I can help you regarding the class issue. When I began working with my client, I told them to drop the class option to make things as simple as possible. I had an attorney client who was trying to coordinate a back office management system with QB - we gave up. More recently, I have worked with a florist trying to synchronize FTD POS data with QB, we are limping along. I can UNEQUIVOCALLY say that you should expect NO help from MS or Intuit. The most important feedback I can give you is to keep to the basics; keep it as simple as you possibly can. Once you have a better understanding of the coordination of the two systems, you can venture into unchartered territory.

Please contact me at freya-oberer@asnv.com and I will give you my contact information. I welcome the chance to communicate and problem-solve. I do have a third party contact who has solid knowledge of the MS POS system, but needs the input of an accountant to pull things together.

Regards,
Freya

Hi Freya:
Thanks for the response. I know what you mean about not getting any assistance from Microsoft, that applies to QB as well. I contacted both Microsoft and QB and received the same answer from both, which was "Don't know...." Can you believe it!! Anyways, I'm trying to get a trial version so that we can test the software, but it's not easy here on Guam, we don't have many distributors who know anything about software!!

One of the other problems that we see is having to do with the number of transactions, especially if the pass-across to QB from MRMS includes details relating to purchase orders and receipts that need to be tied to a/p. Since MRMS is not on the QB 3rd party listing it appears that this is not going to be easy at all.

I'll let you know if we come across anything else. Thanks for responding.

Best regards.
Mari

Freya:
I read your post in June about integrating microsoft POS into QB. I have a retail, high-end food store client that has both systems and I off-the-cuff suggested that he lets me integrate the two systems so he can stop redundantly entering into an Excel spreadsheet to figure out gross margins.
Before I go any further with my recommendation, can you tell me if it will be worth it?
What I mean is, how long and difficult will it be? Has it gotten any easier since your original post in June?

Thanks
