Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Making the Username field always show up empty or blank?

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 10.0: Standard

How do I Disable previous user login from showing so that the username is always blank or empty?  I want to do this so that users of QB will not know other's login user names.

Thank you for using Quickbooks. Quickbooks always prefills the last logged in user in that machine in the login dialog.

Hope this answers your question. If so, please mark this SOLVED

But how do I disable this?  I do not want this showing up.  There has to be a registry setting that can disable this?  This can be a HUGE security issue.

The fix for this is to modify the QBW.ini file.  There are QBW.ini files located in a couple different locations, but I believe the correct one for this setting is at:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions 10.0\qbw.ini

Open this file, scroll through the entries, and look for the [LOGIN] section.  Delete whichever username appears after LASTUSERNAME= entry.  Be sure not to leave any spaces trailing the equals sign.  Save the QBW.ini file and set the properties of this file to *Read-Only*.(Right-click on the QBW.ini file, then click Properties.  On the General tab, select the checkbox next to Read-only in the Attributes section, then click OK).

I have not done extensive testing of this change, but so far it has worked for me on a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server running Quickbooks Enterprise 10.0.

Be aware that this could affect some other settings in Quickbooks, so test, test, test, and test again!

Yes, this will work.  You will need to reset permissions on the file back to read/write if you do any upgrades though, otherwise the upgrade installation will fail.

Eew, risky solution. That may interfere with your automatic updates (if you use that feature - some people do and some don't). It might cause some other problems with saving your desktop settings, although I'm not sure on that...

If this helped, please give a "thumbs up" or mark it Solved.
