Making accounts inactive does nothing

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2012

I have labeled some accounts as "Inactive" but they continue to show up in lists of accounts to access. It's a pain. Is there something else I need to do to get these accounts out of my hair? I cannot delete because they have historical data.

At the bottom left corner of the COA screen there is a little box makered Include inactive, just un-click it and the Inactive accounts will no longer show.

Thank you for trying to help, but I already have these accounts marked inactive and I CAN have them not show in the Chart of Accounts.  My problem is not with the Chart of Accounts list, but, for example, the list of checking accounts.  I have several old checking accounts that no longer exist but have historical data.  These continue to show up when I access my checking accounts list.

If they show a balance other than zero, balance sheet accounts will continue to show.

Thank you for trying to help but all these accounts I am referring to have ZERO balances.  For example, I have used QB for Windows since 1997 and changed bank accounts multiple tmes as I have moved around.  All these old accounts show up in the list of accounts when I click on the Checkbook icon on the home page.  I have to wade through the list to find the account I currently use.  There must be some answer to this.  What am I doing wrong?

Drag your preferred bank account to the top of the chart of accounts by clicking and holding the diamond in front of the account name.

Drag the other preferred accounts above the inactive ones, too.  You may need to show inactive to do this.

Thanks for the attempt but that did not work.  I now have all my active accounts at the top of the Chart of Accounts but the list of accounts in the Check Register icon on the right side of the home page still shows the inactive accounts mingled in among the active ones.  No Change.   Are you a Windows or Mac user?

I'm so sorry, I completely overlooked the Mac part ( I hate it when I do that!)

There is a Mac forum, you may bet better answers there.
