Mailing copies of 1099 Misc to the State

In previous years we always had to mail a state copy to the Department of Revenue in the state of Arizona. I understand that they have revised this and you don't need to mail the state copy to the Department of Revenue any longer? Is this true?

I am sure if you mail a copy, there is no penalty for mailing it even if it was not required.
If it was required, and you did not file it, there could be a penalty.

Or, you could call the AZDOR (Arizona Department f Revenue) and ask. Here's a link for telephone numbers:
http://www.azdor.gov/Contact/t...

I hope this helps. Let us know.

I called the AZ DOR last week and was told they don't require you to mail in the copies. HTH.

If you go online to the IRS site and get the instructions for the 1099's it will tell you where to mail them. You only give the 1099 Misc to contract labor employees not on payroll and certain other persons. The people should be sent their copies by 01/31/08 and the Federal Copy must be sent to IRS by 02/28/08. They only get a copy if you paid them $600 or more. Go to the IRS.gov for answers. Hope this helps some.

For Massachusetts you do need to file Copy 1 with a signed copy of the 1096. Mail to:

Mass. DOR
Form 1099 Reporting
P.O. Box 7045
Boston, MA 02204

Due date: February 28, 2008

Hope this helps!

I am having a similar difficulty where to file my state copies of 1099-MISC in NY. I have searched endlessly on the NY State Tax Dept and cannot find the address to mail this form in. Any help?

Does my company need to submit a copy of Form1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Income, to New York State?

No. Employers don't submit a copy of federal Form(s) 1099 to New York State. New York State no longer requires the annual filing of Form 1099 information returns.

This answer is directly from New York State website.

In this discussion I was talking about 1099-Misc forms. Really none of the states are interested unless you withhold state tax. And now they are only interested in some 1099 forms. I looked on the New York tax site and they seem to be only interested in 1099-R forms which are for Distributions from Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit Sharing. 1099-Misc are for Independant/Contract Labor employees with their own business. So basically if you withheld state tax then you would have to report it. I am attaching a copy of the IT-2104-P 1099R Distribution.I would just call the state and ask them which 1099 forms you are required to send to them? You also have to send the summary form with the 1099 forms which is the 1096.1-877-698-2910 NYS Withholding Tax

Yes that is true. I sent copies in 2 years ago and the state returned them to me telling me they were not necessary.
