Mac 2012 Multi-user HELP?
I have QB 2012 for Mac Multi-user. Is there anyone on earth at QB that knows how it works? I will pay for help but I don't want to speak to someone in India that can barely speak English.

What is happening?
The basics are that you must have a license for each copy of QuickBooks for Mac, you must be able to see each computer in the Shared section of Finder (QB works the same as the integrated Bonjour), and hte QBServer for 2012 must be installed on the same computer as your hosted company file.
Open the file and click on Enable Multiuser Mode and you will be prompted to create users, etc. After registering, make sure you sync your licenses so that the application is aware that you have 2, 3, or more licenses.
If that's not the answer you are looking for please reply with a more specific question.
There are also some very good articles on Little Square to help you setup multiuser on a Mac. Just search on the word multiuser.
All computers are synced. I have to disable multi-user mode to set preferences, adjust inventory but when I reengage multi user the changes are only madt to the admin computer. I send out monthly statements to my customers. On the individual bills made during the month,we post item, quantity, cost, and my customers PO# for each invoice. When I print the monthly statement every thing shows up but the PO#. How can I get it to do that? I would like to use the Return Key to move through columns but I can, again, only do it on the Admin computer because that is the only one that I can adjust all the preferences on. Can't I make all three computers to work the same? Why dip I have to turn off two and multi user mode to make any changes and then the changes don't work on all three. Can I make, somehow, all three to work the same as the administrator. Each user has their own areas of responsibilities but as it is now two of us have to stop work, exit QB, and move to one computer to enter information or make changes to their work. We have used Peactree for thirty years. We recently bought three Macs only to find out Peachtree is not compatible with Apple. I assure you we know what we're doing. We used QB on line to set up the program and a local QB expert to transfer all our Peachtree data to QB. We would like to have three computers that work the same. We would like to print a simple statement with the information we need. If you can help me with this, then we can discuss many more problems I have. Thank You, Terrance Donnelly. 910-262-2091is my cell if your allowed to talk to your clients.
It occurs to me you could launch in single user mode in turn on each computer and set the prefs that way.
Otherwise: Some preferences are stored in the company file. These should be retained when you set them up on the admin computer in single user mode, so long as you are opening the file on the server from the single user client computer (It sounds like you are).
Other settings are per computer and you are right - getting at those in this situation is a problem. I'll enter a request for that.
Until then, as a work around what you can do is copy the QB preference file from the admin computer to the other ones:
1. Make sure QuickBooks isn't running on any of the machines.
2. In the finder choose Go->Go To Folder...
3. Enter ~/Library/Preferences and hit ok
The preferences are stored in a file called
com.intuit.quickbooks2012.pllist (if you are running 2012, 2011 if you are running 2011, etc)
4. Copy that file to the other computers and replace the same file in the same location on those machines. (If you need help with this let me know, but its just moving files around in the Finder. Make sure you don't remove the plist file from the preferences - you want to make a copy).
This will bring some of the prefs over from the admin machine to the clients.
I am also just trying to set-up QuickBooks 2012 for Mac, including the Server program. I brought it so far, that we have two licenses on two iMacs with Lion OS. The QB files to be shared not necessarily have to be in the Shared folder of your Home folder. I have them just residing in the documents folder of iMac #1. Each computer have a different level of password within the QB files.
When the Server program is launched in iMac#1, the QB files you want to share must be added to the Server program. At iMac #2 you will get a window "User Login" when launching QB indicating the users permitted/registered with the QB file(s) and having access to them. Your QB files must already have the registered users listed, with their corresponding level of password.
My 1st question would be: The Server program on iMac #1 must be always on in order for the iMac #2 to have access to the QB shared files? If so, the Server program could be launched at start-up in the log-in items of the user account on iMac #1. BUT, will the shared files still be loaded in the Server program each time it is launched? So far, I have not succeeded in this.
Also, if you want to set preferences, you have to terminate the multi user mode and work separately on computer#1, your Admin computer. However, the preferences you set don't work on your computer#2. As a matter of fact, there is no obvious way to set preferences on computer#2 at all. My company handles a lot of inventory, you again have to exit multi user mode and can only work on your Admin computer. I have two employees that have to stop work just so I can make a inventory adjustment. It appears that the Multi User Mac program has some major flaws. We have used Peachtree for about 30 years but they don't make a Mac program. I'm very nervous that I'm screwed.
See above for a prefernce work around .
You can set the server up to autolaunc at log in in the Users and Accounts log in programs pane of Apple System Prefs. It should by default open the previously used company file.
In QuickBooks 2012 for Mac, you can run QuickBooks in multiuser mode. This means more than one user can work on your company file from different computers at the same time. You must either buy a multiuser license of QuickBooks and add users to your current license, or buy multiple copies of QuickBooks to use it in multiuser mode. For accessing QuickBooks from anywhere via Internet, you would have to avail QuickBooks Terminal Server from a QuickBooks hosting service provider.

I don't think there is a terminal server option for the Mac nor any QuickBooks hosting services of which I am aware.
I've heard people have had success with Hamachi VPN software for connecting to remote networks to run QuickBooks Mac Server.
